Hey Sekerob!
The folks at Safer Networking ( you know, Spybot S&D ) are putting out a beta application that is right up your alley. Analyzes services, aueues, and start up sequences, and has some handy tools for tweakin such behaviors. BTW, are you really runnin IE6???!!! I have found a fully patched IE7, runnin tandem with Firefox, with Firefox being the default, as being the hands down all time productivity suite for the Internet. My apps that refuse anything but Internet Explorer downloads still get weaned, but not at the expense of security. It really works well for me! ![]() |

It took me ages on the clean XPpro install this autumn with 114 patches+SP2 to figure out the right order. Some actually had to be applied before and some after SP2 as well. Really. I did a few installations of XP some time ago and they all went flawlesly, maybe lucky. Just followed windowsupdate, did a number of 8 patches, then reboot, then SP2, then wait annoyingly long till installing SP2 is finished, then reboot, then another 80+ patches, then reboot, no problem. Seeing the problems on Vista I'm glad I'm still on XP. |

Hi Dataman, Diana G. , Sekerob et al!
I liked those links, Sekerob!. Also, I had to completely remove, and replace all Microsoft.Net Framework applications, and repair the Windows Installer using the command line interface. It was a little scary, but the info at Microsoft on Net.Framework was exact, correct, and pretty idiot proof, thank goodness. The gaffes started back when XP was first released, and specifically has to do with ASP, interfacing, and just about all else that conditions our systems for www use. Vista is great, if you are really into interfacing with others in the intensive media approach, but is a waste of resources if you don't. And that's called a memory hog! By the way, my doggone CD Rom instructions are in Portuguese! ![]() |
