Diana, here's an article I stumbled on.

How to fix Vista’s Security Center from reporting missing or duplicate programs
http://vista.blorge.com/2008/01/09/how-to-fix...ng-or-duplicate-programs/

a dopo

Sekerob, Just letting you know that this worked perfectly! I was brave and followed the directions and all is well :)

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Took 9 patches in 2 install sessions over 3 boots to get BOINC going again in service install. After the first 2 boots the core client was not loading the science and the BOINCmgr would just hang, so be warned!

One thing though, with 5.10.35 beta still on, the science remain integer and resumes properly at last checkpoints, so that's positively good, and even thru all this. This is WITHOUT manual closing of the client prior to shut-down/restart.

ttyl

Oh, and stay away from Vista SP1 until MS offers it up properly. There are 551 bug and security fixes in it.... be prepared for many boots. devilish

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Yup 2 installs and everything worked out sucessfully ...except for...

Now, the little previews of the windows you have open get 'frozen' on the screen. They won't go away (as usual) when you click on the current page or just naturally time out. I tried to snip the page, but it won't capture the preview, so I took a pic with my cell phone here .

I am laughing cuz, everytime, I have to click minimize the window then maximize it and hurry the heck away from the taskbar so I don't get the 'preview' frozen again laughing

It started right after all was updated. I just thought it was something temporary silly I really don't want to update anymore....<sigh>

Please check Comodo updater. Just out .304 with several fixes specific to Vista. Had several complete freezes of BOINC service and unloading of all sciences, so hopefully this is the source, but it is coincidental that this started right after the February Vista patching.

ciao
Version 3.0.17.304

* FIXED! Exceptions could not be added in protections window
* FIXED! Ask rules do not work in firewall rules when there is an allow/block rule in the policy
* FIXED! Windows Vista D+ protection was not properly working for pseudo-COM interfaces(e.g. DNS resolver or service control manager access)
* FIXED! Updates are going to provide configuration migration wizard to make the old configurations compatible with the new one
* FIXED! Windows Vista virus scanner does not run

Added: Seeing in the Result Status log 4 failed jobs, dug in and found all failed due unattended 'heartbeat' loss for 31 seconds. Hopefully the heartbeat thing is going to be a thing of the past with version 6 final release.

shock Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

I just clicked on this thread 15 min ago. Ironicly, the power went out at the same time at the pole. It was off for only a minute, but it took about 14 more minutes for me to stop laughing.

laughing YES, the power of positive computing wins again! laughing

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Vista SP1 was a very very boring event. BOINCmgr in single user GUI now starts without the UAC pop-up (at least when running BOINC core client as a service). Supposedly the bluetooth is now working, so soon i'll try to hook up mouse, keyboard and cellphone and the LAN networking is faster and is expected to become better once SP3 XP is available which will be soon and for me on May 5:

Secret Pre-Release Details On Windows XP Service Pack 3

enjoy, and make a good data restore point before applying.

Re: It's International restart your Windows Cruncher day

Yesterday download Ubuntu 8.04 ISO, just 716mb, in just an hour. Today I'll burn it and install. That can now be done from within Windows and provides a dual boot menu to choose what OS you want to appear next time. No separate partition needed which is highly appealing.
