64-bit and Multicore support????

I'm just wondering when WCG is going to put these things into the agent. I know they'd both make a massive difference expessially since by the end of the summer neither AMD or Intel will be activly making single core or 32 bit CPU's anymore. So does anyone have any clue when the software will support these?

Re: 64-bit and Multicore support????

BOINC already supports multicore machines. You can get the Windows version by going to the sign up page and picking the right option.

64 bit computing requires that the science applications be rewritten and recompiles to take full advantage of the architecture. So far, the effort has not seemed worthwhile. This will change when 64 bit computing becomes more widespread.

Ok, so boinc already supports the multicore, so why dosn't wcg just use boinc instead?

Re: 64-bit and Multicore support????

WCG can use either the UD interface or BOINC. The UD interface is preferable for slow machines. I have 3 fast machines running BOINC and a Pentium III/500MHz running Rosettas on the UD interface.

Re: 64-bit and Multicore support????

UD has fewer options than BOINC so it's easier and less confusing for those who don't need the options. Also, I think UD auto updates itself ???

It can, if you want. There are others that would rather run the UD interface so they can see some graphics or are coming over from grid.org. Both program versions run here.
