Grumpy only thinks he is in the South because he is in SOUTH Carolina.
22.1 degrees (F) here this AM. Now I know I'm in the North of something even though I'm further South then Grumpy. |

Hello Burno!
----------------------------------------So nice to meet you. Congratulations on your first Forum post. It's great that so many members post here; it keeps the team thread from sinking. Because you were kind enough to state your city, this geographile could look it up with Google Maps and see that it seems to be a little hilly, but most importantly sufficiently inland as to not benefit from the relative warmth of the Atlantic Ocean. Better find your mittens now ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 2, 2011 7:16:10 PM] |

Oh, you're out there on the Pacific Coast, nasher!
Do you meet many Scandinavians where you live? Many years ago we rode with the ferry from Bremerton to Seattle. It was nice to see the skyline of Seattle grow out of the horizon. Bremerton seemed to be a major base for naval ships. |

nasher,
----------------------------------------Nice area, Washington and Puget Sound. That area grows the best apples and make the best apple pastries ever.

yes bremerton is one of the major naval bases and one of 2 dry-docks that meet the requirements for an aircraft carrier.
----------------------------------------bremerton is also a decommission area for large naval vessels and there are 4 of the conventional powered aircraft carriers decommissioned at the base. ![]() |

OK, there were a lot of navy gray ships, indeed.
You having dealt with nuclear power as a machinist suggests submarines for you which makes me think Groton, CT. Nevertheless I'm sure you can explain to me what commisioned/non-commisioned officer and decommision area - as you mention - means. I have looked it up many times when I come across it in writing, but so far I never understood what it means. I'm afraid it has to do with not understanding the concept because I don't know it from Denmark. <Beware! - I'm a friend of Yukon! from Russia's - he has promised me some nice medals > |
