little mermaid,
----------------------------------------So you bought my tomato alibi? If I ever go on trial I want you on my jury. The hunting came about from an invitation to join a club. Deer are so plentiful in this state that the limit is 12 per season per hunter. First you have to decide if you want to use a Bow, Musket, Shotgun, or Rifle. Then decide what to hunt: deer, bear, turkey, alligator, crow, dove, fox, bobcat, grouse, marsh hens, opossum, quail, rabbit, raccoon, squirrel, or woodcock? I chose deer and turkey. In some states they hunt deer with their car, I prefer a .300 Winchester Magnum. Did I mention that turkey hunting saved my life? Sitting on the ground with my back leaning against a tree I shot at a turkey with a 12 gauge 3'' magnum load, and the recoil hurt my lower back so bad I went to my doctor and they found cancer in both kidneys. (true story) Back to deer hunting. Regardless of the shiny image portrayed to the world the US has areas of people that are just making it by. People in this area hunt for food, not for pleasure. Shooting for pleasure takes place in the big cities, usually gang related. Then there is this little incident http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9uyWAUsnG4&feature=related

gretchch,
----------------------------------------Congratulations on the beta badge. It takes forever to get one. I need about 9 days of beta work to get bronze. Burno, Congratulations on your first badge. Bronze in HPF2. I was finally able to get a sapphire badge in HCMD2. Would like a sapphire badge in HFCC but the task work is getting scarce.

Gongratulations, gretchch
Gallifrey - did you add that country recently, or have I been inattentive? Gallifrey and Crab Nebula .... That video was captivating - that bambi was no bigger than the cat when lying down - and how come the mother deer attacked the dog and not really the cat? Yes. I trusted you would throw tomatoes ... Perhaps it was - as was the case with another Georgian - in your heart you did it However, I have a little harder time believing that hunting is done entirely out of need. I realise much of the world paints a picture far, far too rosy of the USA, but having to shoot your food??? For a variation of the diet, fine .... but having to? Much in life happens by chance. That your life was saved by a turkey, I do trust. And that turkey deserved to be pardoned. |

little mermaid,
----------------------------------------I am just going to say a few more things on this topic and then move on. Dogs will chase deer not knowing that if they catch one they will lose the fight. A mother deer (doe) will protect her fawn and is quite capable of doing a lot of damage to anyone/anything that gets too close to the fawn. In the video the dog was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Believe what you want to. I did not mean that everyone had to shoot their food for survival. Some do, some don't. Hunting wild game is a way to feed a family. Putting wild game on the dinner table is a way of life for many families in poor rural areas. I have spoken with families in that position and have donated deer to them to help them out.

Just a few words before I move on also, rcc:
The mother deer did not really attack the cat. The behaviour of the cat must have sent different signals from that of the dog. I never said all hunted for food .... I suppose most do it for the hunting I doubted that anybody had to hunt for food - nicking potatoes would be my choise - no overhead such as bullets I appreciate you giving your catch/prey/bounty/whatsitcalled to someone who needs it more than you do yourself I most of all appreciate what that turkey did ... ![]() |

-3 Celcius/Centigrade = frosty!
Your "Centigrade" made me curious, grympygrampy, so I looked it up - and it's the same thing: "There is no difference Celsius and Centigrade are one and the same. One term or the other is used in different countries. They relate to the "temperature scale that registers the freezing point of water as 0° and the boiling point as 100° under normal atmospheric pressure." Celsius is named after the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius, who developed the centigrade thermometer." We always say Celsius in Denmark. Well, how far south would you have to go? Even Florida cannot always be depended on, can it? |
