Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Gerald,
No need to be sorry. Hail is a terrible thing, especially when it reaches these type of large sizes. Last year we had a similar storm pass through Central Minnesota about 10-15 miles west of me. And the damage for some was pretty devastating. Lots of roofs and vehicles totaled. A brother in law had to get house, shed and barn roofs replaced. A number of people with whom I work lost vehicles etc. A baseball sized chunk of ice exceeding 100 mph packs a bad wallop. Nobody wants to see that or experience it. Hope it does not happen to you again.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Brink,

Are you out chasing storms tonight ?

Cheers

Nope, washing clothes tired I put this off way too long.
Would have been an easy one to chase.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Looks like a war zone in northern Minneapolis. We had some heavy rain around St cloud. Was hoping a tornado wouldn't come out of this cell. Looks like we are in for a stormy summer. Stay safe everyone.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

It's awful what happened in north Mpls and Joplin, MO, yesterday. I hope all the Minnesota crunchers are safe.

(edited to fix typo in "Mpls")

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Thanks Kate for your kind words. We seem to be in a rainy pattern here. More rain last again for about 4 out of the last five days. Cool too, in the 30's (< 5C)overnight, but thankfully no frost. And thankfully no bad storms. Finally today looks sunny, at least for a while. Maybe finish putting the garden in if it ever dries out enough.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I went birding this morning in Lakeville today and ended up following a wall cloud from southern Dakota/Scott line all the way to Hwy 52 just north of Canon Falls where we called it quits. A very persistent wall cloud with very little rotation. Kind of cool. A big rain and hail maker.
After that we were next to a good birding spot, Randolph Industrial park. All grass land. Saw both Eastern and Western Meadowlarks, Savannah and Grasshopper sparrow, Swainsons Hawk and a Dickcissel.
What a fun day it was! biggrin

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I saw the picture in the birding thread of the swallow. Very nice smile .

I see the team founder Brianmn has retired. I think it has been a couple of years since he was active. Sorry to see him go anyway.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Wow, I hadn't visited the bird-watchers thread before Sgt Joe mentioned it above. Terrific pictures -- Brink's son's photo of the heron as well as the new one of the swallow.

I'll be shutting down my machines momentarily as a line of heavy thunderstorms is coming in. Just glad that they're not packing tornadoes. One of our dogs is our own family weather warning system. She always starts pacing and worrying 20 or 30 mins before we humans can hear thunder. She's at it now -- and the weather radar agrees with her!

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Heads up today. The SPC (Storm Prediction Center) has parts of MN in a moderate risk and has put out a PSWO (Public Severe Weather Outlook). All the factors are in place for this to be a bad weather day.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP BY MID TO LATE AFTERNOON ALONG THE FRONT...AND THE STORMS WILL LIKELY EXPAND INTO A SQUALL LINE BY LATE EVENING. A FEW TORNADOES...VERY LARGE HAIL...AND WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THESE STORMS FROM LATE AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Doesn't look to good out west right now. Hope everyone has a weather alert system in your home to wake you up if NOAA releases a warning. Stay safe everyone!
