@ultimaThule
You ever think of moving to a different country? Your always welcome here in Minnesota! @Bearcat I just flashed my GSkill SSD drive this weekend. It was a pain. The only way the flash will work is if your entire drive is NTFS or FAT. So I had to clone it first, wipe the drive, flash the drive and re-clone the image back on. It worked but man...what a time consuming pain in the butt. They said it woould speed the drive up...it did. :) I hope supermicro has some tricks up the sleeve to get your board working again. |

Bad news folks. Cruncher is down for awhile. Tried to update my bios before installing my hex chip. Dead board now. This is my 1st super micro board which has been a royal pain since I bought it. It was highly recommended from a friend. Never again. Had great success with asus boards in my past rigs. Going to wait to see what super micro has to say before deciding on what to do. This really bites. Ouch. That has to hurt. Supermicro is supposed to have high dependability/reliability built in. The downside is they are highly proprietary. Hope they come up with a solution for you and the board is not really DEAD. Good luck with that. OK Brink, what were they thinking when they came up with that scheme ? Some engineers idea of a joke ? Cheers

@ultimaThule You ever think of moving to a different country? Your always welcome here in Minnesota! Thanks Brink most flattered ![]() To be honest, I do have couple of exit plans. As long as this area is part of EMU I really do not need to consider any local flag wavers. That is why I'm more afraid of nationalists that socialists. First ones would drive this area back to closed ☭kekkoslovakia☭ and I have made decision not to be part of that kind of society. So yes I do have few exit plans. What comes to Americas, I have always count North out and see Middle America and Mercosul as realistic place to move. This is simple because they have every now and then these programs that you will receive passport if buy governments bond (borrow money to local gov with very reasonable interest in form of US$). These programs are something that I could have forth, so I would get passport and pension somehow very easily. So I would not need to be worry about having a job every day and banking secrecy on middle America is equal to Swizz and some part like Guatemala even better. It would be very safe landing there. What comes to North, I know that Canada has these kind of programs too but last time when I check, it was 600k CA$. Too much to me and even if I would have that much cash to loose, I would not lend with zero interest for few years. I would receive 7,5% on Middle and value of returned interest would be at least 5:1 on scale of purchase power. So this is not option, it is more odd joke to me. About USA I have this kind of image that I would need to have some very specific skills before local employer could hire me. Regarding to me I do not have any of those, more like those engineers that you pack thirteen to dozen. Also I think than my education or work history would not be worth of any on there so probably would found myself working on Tesco 7$/h on best case. I think I could be happy with this if I would found job on some village or small city middle of nowhere, I hate cities and like spend most of my time on forest so this could be realistic landing option but I also have this image that employer must justify why he cannot hire local fellow before he can actually hire foreigner. I think all villages are same around world, those does not have jobs even for local peoples... And North I would always life with fact that I do not have passport and someday not even a job. So to be realistic, landing to north would be a kind of hard one to me. But thanks for thinking me ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Jun 20, 2011 9:59:53 AM] |

Cheers Pretty sure it will have to go back to them to fix. Tried an fix last night with some software. Didnt work. Deciding on grabbing a cheap mobo from newegg while I RMA this board or just hold off a couple weeks while this one is getting fixed. Found an asus board for 160 bucks (open box). I hate being without a cruncher.
Crunching for humanity since 2007!

I hate being without a cruncher. I don't blame you. Withdrawal is terrible. Good luck with the new board. Cheers

OK Brink, what were they thinking when they came up with that scheme ? Some engineers idea of a joke ? Cheers Take a look, line 3. #Fail http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?s=f...bc65398d8728ea&t=7273 So this is not option, it is more odd joke to me. @ultimaThule Classic Ren and Stimpy....I love that cartoon!!! You are selling yourself short regarding your skills. A few managers where I work can't figure out how to work a computer and they get paid 6 figures I'm sure. You would be surprised what kind of job you can land if you just try. I should take my own advice and beat feet outa there. ![]() |

Do they think the world revolves around M$ ? Glad to hear you got it working in spite of the backward procedure for doing so. Cheers

Let's play some chess. 1. Six fixures. 2. Workplace -> work permit -> work visa. 3. My right to be on country will be tied to my employer. If my boss would be evil case, it would lead to fear about can I perform heroic epic again and swap workplace on fly. If my boss would be angel, it would lead to fear can I repeat heroic epic if my company does bankrupt. In any case I would be tied to corner like rat. Sun Tzu did describe this method very well on book Art of War. He wrote that order you man destroy their food before you send them to battle, there fore only way them to survive is wictory and they will fight for you to very last breath. But it would not work on my case because I would have freedom to choose. Probably would take one sleepless night before I would swim across Rio Grande. Apropoo, I did some googeling and found out that there is also these another kind of programs on USA. To get permanent resident status need to put 500 k$ to starter company on high unemployment area. This sound to me that kind of money that will be never seen again, so I actually see some sence on Canadian model. ![]() [Edit 4 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Jun 21, 2011 10:56:28 AM] |

I do not know what is your skill set, but do know that there is a growing movement to to outsource some tasks in the IT world to anywhere in the world with an internet connection. You may be able to find that kind of job in Finland or anywhere else which would allow you to work in woods and yet support yourself. However you may have the kind of job which requires you to be on a particular site so maybe that is not an option. Let's see ? Maybe you could win big in the lottery and become independently wealthy. Or you could marry for money and not love ( with the right pre nuptual agreement). Or you could find just the right woman who would keep you and support you in the lifestyle to which you might become accustomed. Just kidding. I am sure you know what you are doing. Cheers

Darn you are missing my point
----------------------------------------![]() I was writing about exit plans if I would need to leave this place. I have count several options on different continents and on Americas middle and southern part works very fine to me. I would be very independent there, citizen with pension. But north was and still is out of question, would be just another second class immigrant among another s. Too old for that. It simply would take so much money that I could (if I would have that much) move to Swizz and negotiate my own tax percent (very low) on some Canton. Bun in the oven -plan sound possible all thought... Might need some booze on worst case but sounds possible, sounds possible. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Jun 21, 2011 1:32:33 PM] |
