Well yes of course, this are will be renamed as ultima Boner.
Mea culpa.

It is sure hot in here, now +86'F (+30'C) here on cost line and should continue at least couple of days..
I meet yesterday this nice lady who moved from Philippines to here work as nurse (all Finnish nurses has move to Norway) and she complained time after time how hot it is..
So I guess it is hot here on any angle...

Well back to more interesting issues, today I went to forest and dig some soil...
I was so surprise to found out that there is a _lot_ moisture on forest areas, with those I mean real forest, not some parks inside metropolitan area..
I dig humus with my bear hands and did not need to remove dirt more than couple of inches and it was cold and moist.
So I think it is not drought that will make difference, maybe some odd bug from warmer area.
But it really seems to me these very slowly growing spures and pines can handle year or two, not so sure about fast growing deciduous trees.

On urban areas lawn has start to turn yellow on those part where it still exists... This is simple mathematics.
We sure have enough water on metropolitan area, this area has connected to lake Päijänne , size of 266,874 acres with tunnel that is world biggest after Delaware Aqueduct..

So it is not question do we have water, it is more like how much it will cost.
Price of tap water is öbaut 1,3 € / m3 (1,8 US$ / 1,3 yd3).
Price of waste water is öbaut 1,6 € / m3 ( 2,2 US$ / 1,3 yd3).

So when ever you buy tap water here, you always also buy waste water no matter where you going to use that water, because there is no meters for waste water, only for consumption.
Some say that this is unfair but I love it, tap water here is lot more pure than Evian on can and you can always drink directly from lake if necessary.

Well, so total price of m3 (1,3 yd3) is about 3 € (4,2 US$).
One m2 (11 ft2) of land requires hundred liters per centimeter (down) and I think lawn could would handle as less as five sentimeters (two inches), so it would still take 1,5 € / m2 ( 2,1 US$ / 11 ft2).

Quite obiously nobody cannot affor that.
So first victim of drought is lawn under barbecue.

That is funny. Why do all the Finnish nurses move to Norway ? Are the wages better there or are the patients just better looking ? laughing

The heat reminds me of a story a few years back. We had a visiting priest from Nigeria who was studying at the nearby St. Johns University. He would occasionally come and say Mass in St. Augusta. He said that in Nigeria the whole church service would take several hours with at least a two hour sermon, but he would limit his sermons here because of local custom. Besides, the Masses are scheduled only an hour and 1/2 apart. smile On one Sunday in July he cut his sermon even shorter because of the heat. (At that time we had no air cooling in the church.) In his words he said " I am African and I am used to the heat. But even so today I am hot. When the African is hot, everybody is hot. " With that he ended his sermon.

When he first came to central Minnesota he did not understand the concept of how cold the winter might get. The other monks at St. Johns told him he should get more warm clothes for the winter. I believe he came in September. He told them not to worry, he had a couple of sweaters. They said no, he needed WARM clothing. He said a little while later he learned exactly what they meant. He learned about long underwear, warm boots, mittens and the biggest, best parka he could afford. He said he could not understand why anyone would want to live in such a place where it got so cold sometime and so hot others. He did have a good sense of humor.

Cheers

Wages are lot better and taxation little a bit lower, so there is reason why people migrate from here to there..

I think being nurse on country side is not bad option here because it will provide reasonable living standard, but on Hellsinki it really means wino kind of living.
Biggest hostipal is on Meilahti and when I take a look at apartment prices there:

Cheapest rent apartment is soviet cube (no indoor pictures surprising), 740 US$, 27 ft2.
http://asunnot.oikotie.fi/vuokrattavat-asunnot/6780027
Next chepest one is also soviet cube (surprise), 875 US$, 35 ft2
http://asunnot.oikotie.fi/vuokrattavat-asunnot/6772679

Cheapest selling target is surprisingly soviet block: 25 ft2, 165 000 US$
http://asunnot.oikotie.fi/myytavat-asunnot/6780245
Second cheapest (please notice original cooker from CCCP): 23 ft2 and modest 185 000 US$
http://asunnot.oikotie.fi/myytavat-asunnot/6778981

Then 90% of all Finland hard core drug users live in Hellsinki.
With those prices it is easy to buy house on country side but salary is very identical, so living standard can vary quite much.

Jup,

too expensive for natives.

If wino want to have one of those rent items, city will pay rent in full.
City will also pay electricity, water, heating and all medical costs.
Also give 590 US$ per month for food, toothpaste, etc

So it is simple mathematics, winos have equal, or even higher living standard on Hellsinki than low wage workers.

So it is not coincidence that certain jobs are populated by foreigners.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Now that we have had some timely rains, some warm weather and some decent growing conditions the garden is finally starting to look like a garden. All of the potatoes are up and the pumpkins, squash and gourds are finally breaking ground. Everything is at least two weeks behind, but should now catch up with the right weather. Now hopefully the weeds won't catch up. smile

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hello fellows...

Well, it is red flag on pole here again....

Here is now socialist as Minister of Finance and it did not take more that one day with these very interesting opinions of hers..
First she is very proud that oncoming tax raising are made by socialist party..

Capital tax will become progressive, current 28% -> 30%/32%
Inheritance tax 13% -> 16%

Then fuel tax 72% -> 82%
On this case she actually did have reason for raise. Lady in red said that it is not raise, it is inflation check.
This is something that I cannot understand because object of that tax is free merchandise and cause we do not have crude, it is free of local subsidy, there fore it price is always inflation checked even on very short time windows. Nobody cannot sell here gas week after week lower that market price...

So now this redwoman has create new kind of consumer good, called compounded tax or maybe it should be called Internal rate of returntax. Maybe raise of reds tax would be best...

So there is this very new kind of tax which will raise because prices generally have a tendency to raise in this world.
But because this is actually tax for consumer good which price generally have tendency to raise (among it is heavily taxed) this new groovy tax has leverage than no another...
Cheapest gas (not eve real gas 10% ethanol) cost here now 7,9 US$/ gal.

Minister of agriculture advise farmers to apply status of political refugee from Norway.

Hard to breath here........
Well I sip some cough syrup, lot better now silly

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Bad news folks. Cruncher is down for awhile. Tried to update my bios before installing my hex chip. Dead board now. This is my 1st super micro board which has been a royal pain since I bought it. It was highly recommended from a friend. Never again. Had great success with asus boards in my past rigs. Going to wait to see what super micro has to say before deciding on what to do. This really bites.
