Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Anyway, none of these Euro-financial problems would cause a domino effect if they had all kept their own currencies rather than uniting on the Euro...

But please remember that EU is not federation. EU is confederation.
So every nation is responsible them self as nation.

And if you take a look at short history of Europe, this WWII biggest loser that was bombarded to ground level just few decades ago, is actually guite much paying hold EU budget (22,96%)..

All those countries that are using €uro as excuse are actually net gainers from German, France and another countries that are funding EU.

So please, it is not so simple.
Of course you can use closed economy like modern China, and export unemployment by devaluation.
It works, but also work as force compensation of private property.
That is why is more profitable play online games on China than work on factory, first one simply will create bigger salary per hour...

I do not know about you fellows, but I have live on closed economy and open one....
I really like open stuff more.... I really do.

Some good points from both Warpedcow and UltimateThule. It is always easier to armchair quarterback than actually play the game. It is easier for me to look in from the outside and make suggestions than to be one who actually has to make policy and take the responsibility for the outcome - good or bad. I do have some faith that people a lot smarter than I am will do the best they can to make things better, even if I disagree strongly with their methods. So here's to the build it up and make it better rather tear it down and make it worse philosophy.

Cheers

Exactly my point - it's unfair to Germany and France that they have to prop up all the other irresponsible countries. I suspect Sweden and the UK are laughing all the way to the bank (pun intended).

I agree, an open economy is much better - just compare Japan and China... Open does not mean handcuffed to others though... The USA isn't a "closed" economy just because Canada and Mexico have their own currencies...

Well, when Wikipedia quotes George Soros about currencies, you know their usual socialist/left bias has kicked in to high gear! LOL.

Anyway, I think it's clear that having a "global currency" is not the right solution to avoiding a currency war, just as having a "one world government" is not the solution to avoiding a traditional war. I'm sure Franklin is spinning in his grave what with all this liberty-draining trans-nationalism.

If you do some digging about Soros, this guy is one of the problems pushing this one world currency and order. Him and his group, from what I have read, has helped crash governments. Seems their eye is on Europe and America. I agree, a one world order is not the solution. The same goes with this free trade pact that the USA and Europe get into. You cannot compete with slave labor (china mainly). Just hope the next election folks realize the current government is not the solution but part of the problem.

Well, it was my point, my country has nothing to do nationalism, it just option among another ones.
My country has been build on patriotism. And I some how have this image that Franklin was patriot.

Let me give you short tutor to close history.
My own country has been divided by nationalism and build on patriotism.

When Finland gain Independence it lead to civil war, there were reds against whites, communist against capitalists.
This war end up having very terrible crime against humanity, there were lot more prisoners executed on illegal trials than lost in battle and even more peoples were starved to death on concentrations camp.

So on era of nationalism this land was divided to two different nation,
and they slaughter each others like animals.

When CCCP attack here just couple of decades after that, local reds did join with whites and visa versa.
This was sup rice on CCCP because they expect reds to join fight with CCCP agains whites and they actually did found new governement for red Finland.

But it did not happen, reds and white both dump their own idea of nation and create one army and fight for keeping the land that they all heritage from their fathers. So they become patriots.

It was war where reds and whites fight like brother together against enemy that was ten times bigger one.
How they did fight, well there was three capital that was not conquer on WWII. London, Moscow and Helsinki.

Having one currency, has nothing to do with all those matters.
It is just simple fact that West German was winner of WWII because they did manage to create unique economical system.
Behind border there was East Germany and they lived on stone age, very much like they do on UK now a days.
For goodness sake, if there is double windows on their houses it is reason to ask extra rent and I have never meet anybody who would has fort to heat their houses +19'C (66'F) year around.
They are still on middle age on UK. Those builds that they call houses, would be forbidden to sell for human residence here.

What comes throwing money for those poor EU -countries, it is another face of same coin.
On Sweden they believe to model where everybody should leave their homeland and move to Sweden to receive help.

Here we believe that every man should receive help on their own homeland.
Now when against immigration nationalist party will be part of government here, they did make clear that there is now need to made any changes to current immigration laws... Regarding them, those are just fine.

So we both help poor peoples, some help them on their own homeland and some ask them to leave their homeland and move to new one receive help.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Quite illuminating. I know the Finns fought surprisingly well defending their homeland. I know so little of Finnish politics I do not have any opinion on how well or not well they are doing. I hope for the best for all of them.

QE2 makes me nervous. I do not know how they will unwind this.

Cheers
