I'm currently being berated on the BOINC reddit page for withdrawing from the project.
So I'm extra grateful for my WCG co-contributors for choosing projects that align with their values. |

All Russia based projects should immediately be de-listed from the BOINC projects list, and even if manually entered, BOINC should refuse to connect to any Russia connected project . In networking there is this thing called BGP and it could be relatively easy to just cut that whole area from the internet. China does it.I'm currently being berated on the BOINC reddit page for withdrawing from the project I'm curious. Berated like what? and by whom? (or really from where?). If anonymous, then it is meaningless. What can someone actually say against it.My fastest machines have no more SiDock and one is still finishing what was there. |

Is there anyone outside of North America with this same view. Not the same view, but can understand your decision.A lot of Russian people don't agree with their government, but don't dare to open their mouthes or are arrested when they demonstrate. A lot of Russian scientists are working around the world e.g. CERN, but are they all suspicious? Yeah, of course one should not be blind for the risks. In USA people will get another chance this year and in 2 years again to show what democracy is look like. They made not a very well figure the last years. |

You are absolutely correct about point 1. They know and we know what happens when they do speak out. As is usual, ordinary people, silent or vocal, are always the victims.
You say Russians are at CERN but they are working in Switzerland or France depending where they are in the lab. Yes, Russian by birth and would they return. Let's ask Garry Kasparov or Masha Gessen and others. I'm sure the scientists at the Institute of Informatics Problems of RAS would be welcome anywhere else. Too bad I had to cancel them. They were working in medicine science instead of maths. |

I'm curious. Berated like what? and by whom? (or really from where?). By several people including the official moderator of the page. One bizzare anonymous post, now deleted, insisted I had "blood on my hands" and had no business switching my computers to other projects. As for the moderator, their post history suggest they have moderator privileges on several pages but are not a developer at BOINC. Reddit seems to have an issue where a handful of non-representative users, including extremists and those with censorious instincts, have sweet-talked themselves into positions of broad trust and responsibility within the network. Don't know if the mods here would appreciate a direct link, especially if those users come back here and distract from the transition. Anyhow, it's not a very active forum; it shouldn't be hard to find my comments. My CPU is now working on Folding project 18408, a massive, multiday, multicore WU. The GPU is working on GPUGrid or FaH, depending on availability. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dayle Diamond at Feb 26, 2022 8:47:31 AM] |

One bizzare anonymous post, now deleted, insisted I had "blood on my hands" and had no business switching my computers to other projects Figured it was that.seems to have an issue where a handful of non-representative users, including extremists and those with censorious instincts, have sweet-talked themselves into positions of broad trust and responsibility within the network. "no business". Ha! My hardware, my electricity bill. I can have them count grains of sand in the ocean if I want. If Anonymous wants to send me a few ThreadRippers PRO 3995WX (4 or 5 would do) and pay my electricity bill, then A can dictate what I join them to. Seems TnGrid has been exhausted for now. My machines were crying electronic tears this morning begging for work. So it was off to the Milky Way. Not my preferred project but they have lots of WUs. Disabled N-Body. Usually 1-2 minute WUs. They use the CPU in a funny way. It doesn't do 100% all the time when they run. I'll leave those to people who use their machine and donate idle time. Seems TnGrid has been exhausted for now. TN-Grid has had intermittent problems with its storage system for a while now: TN-Grid Message Board: Storage problem |
