Now that is an idea.
A WCG team for all who shifted their machines to a different project like TnGrid or SiDock or Folding for 2 months. Not a fan of teams but would join on the 3 I joined up to since Feb14. Maybe I should suggest this in the Teams chatroom |

Someone, early in this thread, had suggested starting such a team on folding at home. I was just wondering iff that had been done.

Did anyone start a team at folding at home Couldn't get it working at all on Ubuntu (FAHControl missing dependencies despite following all the instructions I could find, and despite not exactly being a complete newcomer to Linux - I wrangle Linux and open source for a living). I guess I'll have to look for support on their forum, but I was kind of hoping it would just drop and go. (previously known as 'proxima' on SETI, UD, distributed folding, FaD, and Rosetta) |

FAHcontrol from site needs python 2 but Ubuntu has python 3.
----------------------------------------There is a version compiled for python 3, see FAH forums for details. Paul.

Couldn't get it working at all on Ubuntu Someone has written a guide on how to install on Ubuntu. https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=108&t=36824 I don't agree with all the steps, such as rebooting. You can probably just modprobe nvidia and restart the FAHClient service (it usually doesn't respond to a stop request and has to be killed manually). |

For me and my computers, after crunching solidly since 2005, we'll be taking a well earned holiday. It'll be nice to not have to worry as to how much CPU time will be lost when I need to reboot my machines, nor have to worry that other programs are using up too much resource that could be better utilised on crunching.

Thanks, PMH_UK and bikeaddict - I'll give it another go.
----------------------------------------Although I also agree with gb009761 about having a break (I've been crunching something or other since SETI@Home was released), after 24h I'm already keen to get going again. Apart from anything else, with no crunching going on, it's *cold* in here :-) (previously known as 'proxima' on SETI, UD, distributed folding, FaD, and Rosetta) |

For those still looking for projects, I highly recommend Milkyway@home. The project just published a research paper on their n-body results:
----------------------------------------https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/1538-4357/ac498a While the paper may be a bit intimidating they have also produced two youtube vids on their research which highlight the results and make a strong case for the power of volunteer computing. Full video (24 min.): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eATUWTwdOgc ... and for those with a shorter attention span... Shorter video (14 min): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma44b8-SLcA Both are excellent. I wish more projects would take heed and communicate with their volunteers in such an outstanding manner. https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/ Cheers |
