Below link shows task numbers for projects based on those running WUprop.

Still trying to figure out where you're getting 2 months of downtime. Doesn't the announcement talk about stress testing on the 28th? The website/forum is said to be down for 2 months with only basic info/news shared.

So how do I read this data or is it that straight forward.
----------------------------------------Rosetta@home Rosetta 4301 rosetta python projects 331 Meaning the are more non python tasks (Rosetta 4.20) and we could get by without the Vbox. 331 python projects does not sound like a lot. I'm assuming more people would make that 4301 get higher. This is World Community Grid Africa Rainfall Project 2621 Help Stop TB 16 Mapping Cancer Markers 34253 OpenPandemics - COVID 19 29350 OpenPandemics - COVID-19 - GPU 5715 This is from their site: By running Rosetta@home on your computer when you're not using it you will speed up and extend our efforts to design new proteins and to predict their 3-dimensional shapes Sounds a lot like this place with people owning regular machines and giving the idle time. Like I said above I know of no one with 128 GB of RAM. OK, some have machines doing 24/7 The best way to find out is to try it and see. The first sign of VBox will end the experiment. There is currently a bit of non-Python work. It will run out very soon.
----------------------------------------On the homepage, there is a section called the queue. It currently says 2,417,130. Of those, Around 2.3 million are Pythons since they were there before the non-Python tasks appeared last night. On the server status page, the Rosetta "ready to send" number will not exceed 30,000 and the Rosetta Python "ready to send" number will not exceed 5,000, regardless of how many million of tasks are queued up. Currently I see 5,001 Pythons and 29,191 Rosetta 4.2,. Unless more work is added, the Rosetta 4.2 value will drop to zero very soon. If you have VB installed, there is a way to prevent Python tasks from every getting to our devices. On the Rosetta@home website, you go to your account, devices on this account, click on details on whatever device you wish to modify, scroll down and click on "skip" where it says "VirtualBox VM jobs". The button will change to "allow" and that device won't receive Python work. Dataman, I don't think that's an issue at Rosetta. At least I haven't seen (or I don't remember) anyone complaining of network usage, after the first download anyway. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

There's not much selection for Android devices like my Odroids. I could install Linux on them as there are more projects supporting Linux on ARM than Android, but I won't do that just for a two-month hiatus from WCG. And the whole point of running Android rather than Linux on them was to do WCG work for MCM rather than OPN (since the latter has a more-efficient GPU option). Further, if I were to install Linux then I'd have to install Android again later since there's no Linux-on-ARM option for MCM once it resumes. So they'll stay on Android.
----------------------------------------As discussed earlier in the thread, Rosetta and LHC have VirtualBox tasks which can't run on Android. They have non-VB tasks that could run but those are consistently all sent out with no more available (e.g. Sixtrack on LHC). Einstein@Home has only one sub-project compatible with Android (BRP4) and has all tasks sent out. That leaves only a few projects: Universe@Home, Moo! Wrapper, and Yoyo@home. Moo is doing an "RC5-72" challenge which looks to be related to an encryption algorithm if you really dig into it (they do a poor job of explaining what they're actually doing to encourage participation). Yoyo has only one sub-project for Android and it "searches for the shortest Optimal Golumb Ruler of the length 28". I couldn't care less about pure mathematics projects. So for my Odroids that pretty much leaves Universe@Home which is various simulations related to space. I'm leaning toward LHC@home for my Windows box since Rosetta can't allocate memory appropriately and I want to fully make use of 30 threads on 64 GB (while leaving 2 threads and sufficient memory for still using the computer). |

I think TN Grid can be run on android with some configuration. But I never tried:

I will be downloading the maximum available work on the 14th, and when it runs low, I will be participating in Folding @ Home.
These are the currently available projects - you can click on them for summaries: https://apps.foldingathome.org/psummary The GRO_A7 and GRO_A8 projects run on CPUs. The OPENMM_22 projects run on GPUs. The system requirements vary for each project, but they use far less RAM than Rosetta and have more than enough work to last until WCG is operational again. For those with strong GPUs, I recommend setting your preference for Alzheimer's work. Project 18201 scales well with high-performance cards and has had consistent work for many months. |

I was wondering this too. Does it make sense caching let's say 40days of work or would the units expire on the usual deadlines and be discarded (I guess you can't upload results during the migration)?

Don't cache more than you can do before the deadline for the work unit. Resends will be going out, and they hope to have all WUs in a done state by shutdown on the 28th. ARPs have a shorter than usual deadline, I'm not sure about the others. Take a small cache to keep working for a little bit after the 14th, and see if you get any resends between 14th and 28th. Resends are sent to reliable machines, so again, keep your cache a reasonable size to be able to get resends. You can NOT keep any WUs to work on during the shutdown! Still checking for a temp home. Rosetta is out.
----------------------------------------Any recommendations (or NOT) about these three selected because they are a bit in the same field as WCG and require nothing extra on the machine. https://climateprediction.net/ Climate Study https://www.sidock.si/sidock/ Biomedicine This one gets flagged by Norton as a Dangerous Webpage and also by Virustotal http://www.rnaworld.de/rnaworld/ Molecular biology https://gene.disi.unitn.it/test Genes [Edit 1 times, last edit by BobbyB at Feb 13, 2022 4:34:05 PM] |
