For those still looking for projects, I highly recommend Milkyway@home. Dataman,Milkyway@home is where I'm moving my crunchers too. |

For those still looking for projects, I highly recommend Milkyway@home. ... Both [videos] are excellent. Wow - agreed (I made it through both, and feel as though I even understand some of it: the power of good communicators). I've signed up. I've always tended more toward life sciences (apart from starting with SETI@Home back in '99), but for now any science is better than no science, and the fact that it works 'straight out of the box' in BOINC swings it for me. Thanks for the recommendation - much appreciated. WCG is still selected, and I'll be back processing here as soon as any work is available, but maybe with a view to 'splitting my time' a bit from now on. (previously known as 'proxima' on SETI, UD, distributed folding, FaD, and Rosetta) [Edit 1 times, last edit by alver at Feb 19, 2022 7:48:55 PM] |

Another option (not boinc) for Android devices could be Dreamlab:

As of my post, Milkyway has 10968 tasks remaining.
----------------------------------------90% of the tasks are completed in twenty minutes, the rest in eight minutes. That's roughly 3656 CPU hours of work left. WCG volunteers could tap that dry in a day. Hopefully we do. https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/server_status.php I don't see anything proposed that's big enough to sustain all our donations at once, except FAH. And even they've seen a drop in total jobs since I last posted - 430,000 multigeneration GPU units to 280,000. Time will tell, but it would be great if some version of this thread made it to the placeholder page. Like, a list of places us donors have recommended, and instructions on setting backup project priority to zero. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dayle Diamond at Feb 20, 2022 8:58:26 PM] |

Looking at their applications and doing some testing... "Milkyway@home N-Body Simulation" does indeed complete quickly on the CPU, though it is a multithreaded task so that's giving it a big boost from all the threads at once. The average for "Milkyway@home Separation" is brought down by the use of GPUs for it. CPU tasks for the latter take closer to an hour. It may be prudent to only allow GPU tasks and then have a CPU-only backup project so that your hardware is used most efficiently. |

That's good advice, Acibant.

My machines have not seen any "downtime" since the Downtime. Joined Rosetta, TnGrid, and SiDock.
Finally gave SiDock my Ryzen 9 today to see how it works out. |

Tried to switch over to MilkyWay but they are obviously having server problems and now communication is deferred for 24 hours! Guess I'll try something else.

I got my account set up on Milkyway earlier, but like True54Blue I'm seeing MW having issues... guessed we swamped it. If there isn't already a team there for us, I'll create one once they get the system stable.
