We have started another round of beta testing. I find it strange to do GPU-testing, and at the same time asks clients to not ask for GPU-work for the next 7 days... 17.04.2012 20:33:05 | World Community Grid | [unparsed_xml] SCHEDULER_REPLY::parse(): unrecognized cuda_backoff 17.04.2012 20:33:05 | World Community Grid | [unparsed_xml] SCHEDULER_REPLY::parse(): unrecognized 604800 17.04.2012 20:33:05 | World Community Grid | [unparsed_xml] SCHEDULER_REPLY::parse(): unrecognized /cuda_backoff 17.04.2012 20:33:05 | World Community Grid | [unparsed_xml] SCHEDULER_REPLY::parse(): unrecognized ati_backoff 17.04.2012 20:33:05 | World Community Grid | [unparsed_xml] SCHEDULER_REPLY::parse(): unrecognized 604800 17.04.2012 20:33:05 | World Community Grid | [unparsed_xml] SCHEDULER_REPLY::parse(): unrecognized /ati_backoff 17.04.2012 20:33:05 | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed 604800 seconds equals 7 days, but since both cuda_backoff and ati_backoff is deprecated they're not used by v7-clients. For anyone still using v6-clients on the other hand, they'll be stuck with the backoffs except if manually hits "update"... "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." [Edit 1 times, last edit by Ingleside at Apr 17, 2012 6:46:26 PM] |

I have summarised my results: 31 valid, 13 invalid and 1 too late when there was no consensus after 7 attempts.
I wish the techs good luck identifying the factors leading to a valid / invalid result. I attempted it by BOINC version, ATI chipset, and CAL driver version but I found the same combinations valid and invalid! |

So, are the 8400GS and 210 series not included in these tests? I was just asking because I thought they met the OpenCL requirements but none of mine seem to get work. With all of the various forum posts, it is hard to keep up on things right now.

One thing I noticed on the GTX570 the task would actually finish in about two minutes but it'd sit at 100 percent done for almost a minute doing something in the background before it'd go to upload.

@Ascholten, if I'm correct, and I may be wrong here, but I think the app was created to run with some CPU in the beginning, GPU in middle, and CPU at the end. I don't know how the AMD cards work, but it bothers me that NVIDIA cards have to run the CPU full bore during the entire task. Which I believe someone mentioned was NVIDIA's issue with OpenCl, not WCG. Makes the app for NVIDIA rather sloppy IMHO. NOT BLAMING THE KNREED, but it bothers me.
For those who have run on AMD, is a core being used at full throttle during the task as well? Would love to know! |

This is a re-post from an earlier beta GPU test as I do not know how to reference it from a new post:
I watched several beta GPU work units with Process Explorer and GPU-Z. In windows 'normal' processes run with a priority of 8; Boinc CPU work units with a priority of 4 and the CPU portion of GPU work units with a priority of 6. This means that that the GPU tasks will run in preference to normal work units but after normal processes. The work unit used a full CPU core for 20 seconds with no GPU processing. While the GPU ran 40 to 60% load, the CPU used 2 or 3% of a core. Finally the work unit used a full CPU core for 60 seconds with no GPU processing. Hardware i7 2600k 8 threads; Radeon HD 6770. |
