Just moved the GTX570s out of my main system and into my garage crunchers. Replaced them with a 7970. On my main system, I'm now getting the following messages from BOINC: Also try the Support FAQ How to completely clean drivers of replaced GPU cards (BOINC FAQ Service).4/20/2012 5:05:29 PM | World Community Grid | Application uses missing CUDA GPU |

Kevin, can you gives us an idea as to when round 5 of GPU beta testing will start?

in addition to nanoprobe's comment:
Would love to know if it was my driver that caused Invalids on the 680. Only noticable difference was his had 301.25, which I have now switched to. Thanks |

Its been really awhile for this project to launch. How I'd wish they have been given more hours for WCG's claim code.
----------------------------------------I'm itching for round 5. |

We are looking at the results from the previous beta. In particular, we are looking at the invalid results and the differences they show. The differences are fairly small but larger than the range of variance we have accepted previously for this project. We are discussing with the researchers about what the proper course of action is. Once we can reach some conclusions, we will then be able to make some plans about how to resolve the issue. Hopefully we will be able to get some answers soon.

thank you for the update, Kevin.
----------------------------------------Please, can you give examples of larger than accepted variance range? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 24, 2012 3:29:11 PM] |

I think this would be a very complicated answer. I believe that the tech is a paid employee and while he is trying to be helpful it is not his job to to teach high level math. If you want a real simple answer - random number generators are used in the calculations. That is why answers can be different.
I you want to study the type of math that is PROBABLY being used I will try and get you started. Note: I don't claim to understand this math! 1st see: Monte Carlo method Note: It is called the Monte Carlo method because Monte Carlo is the name of a gambling casino! Monte Carlo method http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/addpost?parent=374818 2nd see Computational biology Computational biology http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Carlo_method#Computational_biology Monte Carlo methods are used in computational biology, such for as Bayesian inference in phylogeny. Biological systems such as proteins[18] membranes,[19] images of cancer,[20] are being studied by means of computer simulations. The systems can be studied in the coarse-grained or ab initio frameworks depending on the desired accuracy. Computer simulations allow us to monitor the local environment of a particular molecule to see if some chemical reaction is happening for instance. We can also conduct thought experiments when the physical experiments are not feasible, for instance breaking bonds, introducing impurities at specific sites, changing the local/global structure, or introducing external fields. |

We are looking at the results from the previous beta. In particular, we are looking at the invalid results and the differences they show. The differences are fairly small but larger than the range of variance we have accepted previously for this project. There might be AMD verses Nvidia differences also. It is another reason to hold off on buying a card just for this project. The raw points score may be irrelevant in the end. |
