Re: UK

Backing off my cache now and reducing to 0.5 days again. Got enough in there to hit Ruby on CfSW by Friday morning's update - rumours of 11 weeks of work left are unfounded - c. 2 weeks left.

Re: UK

Thanks to everyone who replied re CPU overheating. Th UK team does not appear to have a problem with this. Considering the summer we've had, hardly surprising. wink

Re: UK

Do you have any figures for the month-on-month rise/fall % in CPU time of WCG compared to Team UK?

I don't have them to hand sad but I don't think there's anything to be gained from presenting them in the format you describe. The comparison of UK team daily averages, by month, that I posted here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=387456 might be useful. wink

Re: UK

Some random things found in the forum:

Making a debut forum post today was UK team member Nugget295 - reporting a problem in the HCC GPU thread. Maybe he'll stop by and say hi! smile He's running a Radeon HD5770 win 7 64 bit Intel i5 750 CPU.

Grendel90 - joined the UK team one day and left the next - has formed a 1 member team!

SNURK is in absentia meaning Mike D Green is still waiting for his Globe which I think will be Gold before turning Ruby within the month. That will mean all the regular posters in this thread (bar 1 wink) will have a SNURK Globe sig. smile

Re: UK

SNURK's globes are great, a lot of respect for producing them cool

Target 10 has been announced for HFCC (I suspected as much when they announced a slow down in HFCC's Feeder Priority), which is good news for anyone who hasen't reached their personal targets for it yet biggrin

Also means I can go to doing 50/50 on HFCC & getting the blue badge for the Snail, then see about upping my 3 years to 5 years for HFCC smile

Re: UK

The UK team's participation in yesterday's HCC GPU test amounted to a grand total of 0:000:00:10:13 batting eyelashes Since I've seen no indication of the size of the test there's not a lot more to be said! straight face

Re: UK

I've had more than I can count on my I7, but all have failed (1st batch of GPU Beta's to do so?, all previous batches worked).

Re: UK

Hardware for Boinc Question

Hi all new member here, I've been running Boinc on my home machine for years and a few other bits and bobs. I've had a couple different user names in that time because I keep forgetting my passwords and changed email addresses a couple times etc anyway off topic.

I'm looking to get into Boinc a lot more seriously. I'€™m looking to spend about £500ish on a system dedicated for Boinc. I'€™m not looking to specialise for any specific project. I'€™m not really just after getting more credits than my friends or whatever but obviously credits is the way Boinc measures work done so what I am really after is the most credits per £. But remember this is for any project in general not just a specific high credit project or whatever.

Anyways so I've been searching google like mad trying to figure out what sort of system to go for, there'€™s just no useful information out there. Any info you can find is contradictory.

Here are a few systems I'€™ve looked at

1x 2600k system, plenty of ram and probably a decent graphics card

4x AMD 3.6ghz quad core

4x Intel 2.5ghz Celeron dual core

Some benchmarks seem to suggest a dual core Intel Celeron at 2.5ghz will out perform a 3ghz AMD quad core. I just can'€™t see how, surely the quad core would be better. Also if I look at http://boincstats.com and compare the average credit per CPU then divide that by the cost of each system then a 2600k system comes out on top. How can a single 2600k system outperform four AMD quad core systems clocked not that much slower.

So as you can see I'€™ve gotten myself a bit confused. Seeing as it's for the good of the Team, can anyone suggest what would be the best system togo for in my price rang? Thanks Adam
