This is a personal first for me on WCG, just discovered that I'm my own Wingman
---------------------------------------- Had a whole bunch of repair jobs come through for HFCC & Snail on both systems, as i'm a little bored, I decided to check on why, and low and behold, one of the jobs for HFCC has 2 Orange lines, someone else had errored out and the server has sent one copy to my Quaddie and the other copy to my I7 I have a tendency to get all repair jobs started as soon as I see them in the queue, after I've returned one copy, atleast I know I won't be having to hang around for days on end waiting for me to return the other copy ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm liking the 2nd hand proper server idea. it's very compelling. I don't have anywhere at home I can run that sort of thing because of the noise. Might see if I can "borrow" a couple of u in the comms room at work ;-)Hmmmm..... at those prices, I may one day be tempted to utilise the 'wasted' space in my (detached, well away from the house, cool) garage roof space :-) Anyone else crunch in some sort of unheated out-building? |

Well, that's my Ruby for CfSW. Only a few more left in the cache now, so will let them run down and then try for my HCMD2 Emerald as the project only has a couple of weeks left and I should be able to make it in that time.

One of my "ideas for when I own a house" (ie. a bit more space than the flat I currently own) is to build a cheap Beowulf system, just to see how it performs...
----------------------------------------I reckon I could pick up the parts for each "module" for about £200-250 each, and it'd be a pure framework (ie. no cases, just a set of long metal rods for the motherboards to rest on. I used to have two laptops in the garage - in the roof as mentioned above - and moisture was a concern at first. Not that it leaks - I think that really would be an indicator not to do it! - but condensation. In practice, with the machines on 24/7 and hence warm, I suspect that they stayed dry. Certainly, they didn't suffer any issues and are still running, though indoors now since it became too annoying having to go in and reboot them occasionally. That said, actually /buying/ something to treat in this way is a bit different from merely putting a redundant machine or two up there and not being too bothered if it's damaged.... ![]() |

Following on from my previous post: Estimates of the number of days to fill the gaps in the Global 5000 rankings including Gordoma who is the only member currently challenging for inclusion. Estimate based on the previous 6 days activity.
----------------------------------------RunTime Days Points Days Results Days [edit] The estimates of "Days" are seriously flawed! I haven't accounted accounted for the fact that the level needed to qualify is a moving target. Revision to be posted Sun am.
