The UK team monthly stats report http://bit.ly/N6AHrO has 7 pages. Very interesting set of stats. Thanks for doing these as they're very entertaining / encouraging and make being part of the team more fun :-) My daily contribution may be stepping up about 40% or so sometime in the next couple of weeks as I have almost decided to buy a new Thinkpad for day-to-day stuff rather than replace the now-very-dim screen on this T61p. It's looking like I'll be adding another 4 hyperthreaded cores, so 8 parallel WUs, which will run approx. 90% of the time. Every little helps, as they say. Mike ![]() |

@ genhos You're welcome.
---------------------------------------- I started producing stats to satisfy my own curiosity and it sort of ballooned! Were you able to run any of the GPU Betas before you joined us? |

Looks like there may have been a few healthy caches in play during the outage. Our stats for yesterday are pretty good... @ gordoma Sorry, but I disagree with your interpretation! System downtime impacted on results for both 1st Sep and 31st Aug. The 2 sets of results should be taken together and averaged before comparison with 30th Aug and earlier. Thus: Statistics Date Run Time Points Results IMHO, comparing like with like, the UK team performance across Aug 31 and Sep 1 was poor. From that I infer that cache sizes, within the UK team generally, were set < 1. An added factor, impossible to quantify, was the bad batch of CfSW WUs on Aug 27 resulting in previously "trusted" devices having to re-prove themselves, with a consequent increase in P/Val and P/Ver levels. Teams like IBM had the added disadvantage that many of their machines are on user laptops who power down for the weekend, so there is a natural dip. Also I think it may be a long weekend in the US, which won't help them? ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by gordoma at Sep 2, 2012 6:08:52 PM] |

As Mike says, stats are interesting to read to see how things are going, are they on the up or down and to see how you compare with the rest of the team.
----------------------------------------As for GPU units, I haven't tried to get any of these. Are any of you guys crunching on GPUs? |

Are any of you guys crunching on GPUs? Well I should be..... I confess that I've not studied whether either of the two machines which should be using their GPUs actually are though. What is the most obvious way of telling? (The GPU on my main machine is barely warm when it's doing nothing but WCG.) Mike ![]() |

No GPU projects have yet started, all we've had are series of Beta tests for HCC - the last back in early July although another appears imminent.
----------------------------------------This thread has some useful info re what settings are needed to participate in a GPU Beta: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,32803 The key determinent though is what GPU your individual machine has. Here we're getting into areas I don't fully understand Somewhere there is a list of GPU's that work or don't work. When I find it I'll post the link. This post by knreed has an extensive guide as to which GPU cards work well: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=373358 It's easy to tell if a GPU Beta is running on a machine. Check the list of WUs - GPU Betas are easily identified and normally run in addition (at the same time) to normal WUs. Hope that helps. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Sep 2, 2012 7:46:53 PM] |

I've set my profile up to use GPU wherever available. I've not looked into whether my GPUs will work or not as I can't do much about it

No GPU projects have yet started.... Ah - that would explain it then ;-) I thought I'd read that they had started but I must have missed the 'beta only' note on that. Thanks for the link; looks as if I have 2 machines with GPUs which should work, and a third which I've just ordered ![]() ![]() |

I know it's caused by the filesystem issues WCG has been having, but I found this quite nice to see......not bad for a "day's" crunching:
