Re: UK

- I run the five new-ish VMs at only 1.5GHz per core (as opposed to 2.4GHz), but that's more a case of keeping the physical hosts from SMS-alerting whoever in my team is on-call at the time.

- I'm also now running my laptop at 75%, as it was topping out over 100C while running at full-speed, and I was seeing constant temperature-alerts in my operating-system message log.

- The 8-core VM I'm using on a colleague's development-box is only running out of business hours (6pm-6am), as it was impacting some time-sensitive work someone else is using it for, during the day.

- My gaming PC is running only when I'm not gaming, at home.

So, all of the above means I'm running considerably below the rate at which I could run at, but still churning out plenty of workunits! smile

Re: UK

Well I tend to clean all of my heat sinks (including laptops) about every 6 months, and no overheating problems ever happen to me =)

Re: UK

Team Targets
After consideration I'm leaving things well alone and continuing my predictions in the usual way. Too difficult and too subjective to do otherwise. wink

RunTime
Michigan Tech	32	days
IBM Tucson 32 days
Wisconsin 39 days
Austin GridTeam 19 days
Gillboskolorna 35 days

Points
ESU 26	days
UTBM 19 days
America (USA) 11 days
BOINC@MIXI 7 days
IBM Web Innovators
& Friends 5 days

Results
Michigan Tech	19 days
BitBenderTech 15 days

Things will happen quicker if the UK team can continue adding new members!

Re: UK

I also clean my laptop fans and heatsinks every six months or so after one was constantly running at 85C - cleaning it dropped it back to 65C :-)

The rest of my machines are in a fairly cool room and I'm fortunate to live in a stone-built house, so it doesn't respond quickly to high outside temperatures. I also live in the Yorkshire Dales so high outside temperatures are not exactly a frequent problem... ;-)

Very amusing video link - that's a dire machine to clean!!!

Re: UK

No heating problems here (fingers crossed), 100% of what I can crunch all the time.

My systems are well passed their due date for a clean, but that'll have to wait til I get my new system, that'll give me the chance to alternate the systems, allowing for regular downtime and cleaning.

Re: UK

Nice stats jonnieb-uk.

Can you estimate how long it will be before I loose no. 1 position within the team based on Augusts average performance?

Re: UK

I'm already in the top 10 for points and results, for the team, but need another year and a bit of run-time for the team before I'm in the top 10 for all three! Ahh well, onwards and upwards, let the crunching continue! smile

@ crooks_uk
Only 2 members are in a position to challenge based on August's crunching:

Runtime

dmc_1970 590 days
Thargor . 1098 days

Points

dmc_1970 139 days
Thargor . 339 days

In Results your position appears unassailable with the closest challenge from dmc_1970 only amounting to 53.6% of your total for the month.

Re: UK

Haven't had any heat problems, but I have had a few days where the computer was only on for a short time. Should be pretty much back to my part-time normal output for now.
