Re: UK

But how does this change achieve that? Even expressing the % to 2 decimal places, a smaller cruncher is going to see a slower rate of change in the % than in the rankings. SNURK does a fantastic job with the Globe sigs. but I think this was a waste of effort.

I agree that WCG are probably not keen to explore the dormancy issue, in the same way that Facebook are not keen to deal with fake/duplicate accounts.
I get the impression it was just around having a discernible end point of 100%, with member numbers increasing and people not being implicitly aware of the number of members, the percentile option was seen as preferable. Not surprising since as you said previously, you only need a handful of CPU days to get into the top 50% so it's nice for those just starting out, but once you've got some RT under your belt it pretty much makes no odds unless you're a "mega-cruncher" who can see they are in the top 1%

The dormancy issue impinged on another thread this morning - https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33696 - the UK team was criticised for entering a "Small Team Challenge". But who/how is "Small" defined?
Hear hear... No parameters, no argument! Thanks for defending our honour biggrin

I thought I'd have a quick look at the suggestions forum to see if there had been any suggestions around creating stats for active members only. Found a thread about removing/merging devices which had turned into a real shouting match around WCG marketing x-million devices to get funding and support, so not wanting to do anything to reduce that number and then another line around suggesting frivolous changes that take the overworked techs away from more important issues like fixing faulty servers and improving reliability, security, etc... Which of course I fully support.

The phrase that came to mind at that point was "slowly back out of the door"

LOL Many's the time I've got as far as "Preview" before coming to my senses and deleting a draft post, rather than contribute to such a shouting match! smile

My favourite thread to avoid is entitled "Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK"

Number of times I've been tempted to post but then just thought... it's not worth getting into the argument.

Re: UK

...anyway - changing the subject... I've just noticed that I'm in 56th place in the team for results (in no small measure thanks to the quick turnaround of the CfSW WUs) and 107th place for Points. Top 50 and Top 100 respectively beckon - although my rate of climb in results will drop off sharply when I move from CfSW onto some other projects

169th for RT, so a bit more of a journey to make there. Well done to Mike D Green who whizzed past me in the RT list this morning.

Re: UK

Welcome aboard djerram.

In other news... update from the techs that it will be 12-18 hours before the servers are up and running - looks like the outage was a biggy - might throw the stats out a bit!

Re: UK

I have less than another 2 hours before cores slowley begin to become dormant sad I thought I had a enough work units to see me for over a day, but a fair few were really short (a couple less than an hour).

Looks like I might run out of work before the servers are back up and running sad

Re: UK

I imagine most people are in the same boat... default is 0.1 days which I imagine the vast majority of people don't change, so today has been pretty unproductive for WCG

The only reason I'm running a 2-day cache is because I'm on a single projects. Normally I don't run more than half a day... I downgraded from 3 days yesterday as I fet I had too much.

Close call.

Re: UK

Welcome to the team djerram biggrin

Have set both systems to 1.5 days now, just waiting on the servers to allow me to download more, the quaddie should be okay until about midnight (fingers crossed), and have installed some updates and restarted the I7 which has in turn has given me a little more time before I begin to run out.

All Work Units on the I7 are finished or are being worked on, so 1 hour 15 mins approx till more 1st core runs out crying .

Better news though, I've hit 32 Million Points for the team biggrin

Re: UK

@ themoonscrescent And about to hit 31yrs RT and 70,000 Res so all good. biggrin

I'm all out of work now sad Hopefully the fix won't be too much longer. I'd be happy (and sleep easier) if I can least download some work before end of day.
