Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.35

There goes your answer evilkats - It didn't start from job 0 but instead job 12 upon restart.

The progress bar for this project is really misleading so I stop reading it and just read the logs to be precise.

Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.35

Ouuuuuch, same strange error yet again - see http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ad,30231_offset,60#302034

Again: Hibernated PC, noise as desktop background, error messages all over the place. After reboot, BOINC came up with new WUs, and all previous WUs had ended up in errors. Error logs don't say much, some of the stderr.txt content I had seen during the beta WU progressing has disappeared. And it reported 0 points 0 time, although it had run for at least 7 hours. crying

Now I have got a SINGLE beta - let's see how this goes. I will stop overriding the default settings for CEP2 wink

Regards,
Martin

Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.35

I don't know if it matters, but I observed that in Windows 7, all finished Beta WU's spent a range between 4/5 and 2/3 1/2 of estimated time in the "To completion" column in the Tasks tab (shown by 6.10.58 BOINC client), to be crunched.

edit: to update the range, based in the last Beta just finished.

The 2nd wave of BETA's on my Athlons shows a much better performance running 4 tasks concurrently:

Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.35

Just a note that the CEP2 setting to ignore project requirements does not apply to this Beta run,
04/11/2010 00:17:21 World Community Grid Message from server: Beta - The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 requires 128.00 kbps download bandwidth. Your computer has been measured at 119.48 kbps - Close, but no cigar.
Still, got a few on another network.

My experience has been that it does affect the # betas downloaded. When the option is off, as I keep it when not supervising, it won't give me more than one beta task. Whenever I turn the option on, it lets me have one beta unit/core.

Am I the only one still having large discrepancies between elapsed and cpu time? Unfortunately I missed the stats on the last beta crunched as it completed and uploaded overnight, but I now have a few more to look at. (The one I reported was something like 7:23 elapsed, 6:47 cpu, much worse than others have noted).

This is a quad running XP. One of the cores is running CEP2 inside andLinux, while the beta is crunching on the windows side. I limit the windows betas to running one at a time; the other cores are crunching C4CW. It's not a dedicated box but hasn't been used for much else than BOINC the last week or two.

On the positive side everything so far has uploaded quickly and been valid. [Edited for clarity]

Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.35

So far that laptop is doing good. I think it was the version of BOINC that it had trouble with.

The time to completion is based on the assumption that all WU will take 12 hours to complete. You would never see it at 100% unless you took 12hrs. The code is not smart enough to adjust (time to completion) to the variances of jobs because the output is not linear. ie job 2 may complete in 10 mins sometimes its 1hr or 2hrs. This variances per job makes it hard to predict when its gonna complete.

Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.35

X-Files,

If you set the new setting discussed here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,30182

Then instead of being limited to 1 task only, you will be able to get the normal beta setting of 1 task per core.

They said those settings don't apply to Beta. sad

This settings for beta will only allow 1 task per core, but it doesnt allow if you have less bandwidth.
