No problems so whatever is happening the Beta is causing it. So nanoprobe, it looks like I am not the only one. Although one of the betas ran fine, the next one again caused the entire system to go mad, 2 other WUs that had several hours of run time ended up in errors. Since my PC ran fine for the last couple of years, I agree that there must be something seriously wrong with these betas. Regards, Martin ![]() |

Past performance is no guarantee for the future. Saw a note on an IT website with the question: Who's still running XP? 55 Euro's I saw the student/home W7 kit as costing in the shop and our VAT rate is 20%. The smoothness with which W7 runs, if it has to be Windows, gave my laptop most definitely a second life... 2 concurrent Beta 6.35 on the duo and no user perspective issue. Both validated.
----------------------------------------Note also that 6.10.32 might need an upgrade to 6.10.58. Clients dont crunch, but they do count for stability. And OCing... well timing is everything... CEP2 is seeking out the limits.

Been lucky this round. 3 processed without problems with CPU and elapsed time very similar (within about 15 mins) on devices. I even had two crunching at the same time on a dual core. Intel E8500, 4 GB RAM, W7 x64. Intel P4 520 (with HT on), 2 GB RAM, XP x86.

Got at least 169 of 'em.
18 or so are "In Progress." The rest are either "Valid" or "Pending Validation." Everything's gone swimmingly. Nice to have the Mac folk included again. My lab machines were lonely for betas. |

It's not really a big deal. For some reason the CEP2 betas don't like this cruncher. It looks like the overall errors are minimal. I'll just let this one crunch on betaless. It's not worth my time to try and figure out why it chokes on these betas. I just posted the errors so the techs could take a look if needed.

aginghippie,
----------------------------------------Thanks for that positive feedback. Being first is not always what you want to be placed at when finding bugs and as it is, in past WCG experienced too little participation from one or the other platform to even find a wingman to crunch the other half, in time. Any platform participation does require a certain steady minimum and that's what the techs look at when considering ports. Was it Mac All or only Mac Intel for instance? edit: member addressed

The bulk of my machines are Intel Core 2 Duo (OS 10.6.4). I have an odd G5 machine here and there (servers running OS 10.5.8).
The reason I started crunching here nearly two years ago was the unceremonious dumping of the PPC chip by the Rosetta@home folks. If my PPC machines aren't good enough (no G4 machines are online now, but they still are handy machines on the server side--and they'll crunch when they go back up), then none of my machines are good enough. Love me, love my dawg. Funny though. After two years of nothing, I've only dropped down to #11 in their stats. If you need dozens of Macs in a semi-controlled environment (I'm one of those hippy types so the common control freak approach to running labs is NOT being used), let me know. Our students should see this kind of stuff in action. |

The BOINC client version was the problem one of my Laptops had. I mentioned this above, so if anyone is running old clients, you may want to update them.
