Am I the only one still having large discrepancies between elapsed and cpu time? Nope. Both of my Macs (MacBook Pro, MacBook Air) are getting terrible discrepancies. Currently running: MacBook Pro - Elapsed 12:20:48 CPU 7:29:04 62.4% Complete MacBook Air - Elapsed 15.07.11 CPU 2:57:17 24.6% Complete My two PCs have discrepancies (20%-30%). While I run multiple Boinc projects, the only project currently running on all systems other than WCG is WUProp@home. |

Well, looks like the 5000 (x2) Beta fountain has just run dry... All went well, after 19 Betas on four different machines, the ones I've monitored had over 95% CPU efficiency and none had bugs whatsoever. Bronze badge is the icing on the cake!

Of 17 WUs processed by this box and 78 completed or in progress overall I have (1) that exhibits the same behavior I've seen on my slower Linux devices,

Rather than 2 betas at a time, my computer perfectly survives a single beta WU. Still got one to prove this theory.
----------------------------------------So on a Windows XP(32) computer with no more than 2 Gig of RAM I would recommend not to override the CEP2 defaults. Regards, Martin |

Correct. My centrino duo was shaking, so after 5 hours suspended one beta that ended with 24 minutes ''gap'' (on 11 hours) and the second let to run afterwards nearly dead the full 12 hours and has 49 minutes gap. There's no doubt that the hardware must be up to the job to handle the large IO on multi-core devices.
----------------------------------------In practise with default (no override selection) and observing on Linux quad, a multiple-science profile HFCC/C4CW/CEP2 did work such that as soon as the CEP2 job was completed AND reported, and none (CEP2) were in a 0.01 buffer, the first new job to backfill was always a CEP2 job. The comboing with short running sciences such as C4CW/HCC is thus delivering maximum CEP2 time on 1 core, but obvious not 24 hours in a day. When running in combo with HPF2, the time there wont be a CEP2 to crunch is rather long. Personally, an intermediate setting of n / cores = 2 so that quads can have 2 in the buffer combined with a shortish cache would be the ideal without need of micromanaging on a mix science profile and not put performance on tilt. That would kind of work out that most of the time 1 will be crunching, sometimes 2, which a quad of first generation handles well. The I7s seemingly do very well from reports in this thread. Not remembering reports how I5 duos with HT as virtual quads fared. PS, just validated, the outcome of this test on my duo: BETA_ E200560_ 074_ A.26.C20H11NOS4.319.1.set1d06_ 0-- 95711 Valid 11/3/10 21:26:58 11/4/10 16:17:47 11.61 118.8 / 128.2 BETA_ E200560_ 071_ A.26.C20H11NOS4.295.4.set1d06_ 0-- 95711 Valid 11/3/10 21:26:25 11/4/10 08:33:06 10.55 108.1 / 105.3 BETA_ E200520_ 840_ A.24.C21H17NSSi.9.0.set1d06_ 0-- 95711 Valid 11/1/10 22:41:14 11/2/10 11:20:40 12.00 118.4 / 140.3

I just finished my first beta WU on my Macbook
----------------------------------------No problems with it. I had 12:05 h of computer time and 10:36 of CPU time but the computer was in normal use so I don't wonder about that. |

I received 3 Betas on my XP Pro 32 bit box. I let them run 1 at a time on a hex core. The first one ran 3+ hours and then I received C++ runtime errors and all 6 WUs running failed with computation errors. I rebooted and tried again. Same issue only this time the Beta only ran for 7 or 8 minutes. Rebooted and let the box crunch for 2 days with the third Beta suspended. No problems so whatever is happening the Beta is causing it.

I went in and reinstalled the runtime libraries after the first failure. That obviously didn't help. XP Pro SP3 32 bit 3GB DDR2 PC 6400 ram 4GB swapfile BOINC 6.10.32 This 1055t hex is running OC'd to 3.5 GHz. Could that possibly have anything to do with it? All the other projects run fine and all other betas have run fine.
