Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.35

Note that the installer if re-run brings up not only an "uninstall" option but also a "repair", which may have fixed the issue too. From a support perspective, everyone on 6.10.58 is most convenient and it does certainly on windows need not take more than 1 minute (including the automatic stopping and restarting of the client).

Finally managed to hook 4 Beta WU's on 3 different PC's, none concurrent and, so far, 2 Valids, 1 PV and one still crunching and all without a hitch - would like a few more WU's, please!!

The only beta I received this time validated OK on a P4-2.8 with WinXP and 1GB RAM. It reached the 12 hour deadline on job #13:

Killing job because cpu time has been exceeded. Subjob start time = 0, Subjob current time = 1088494738
[06:50:24] Finished Job #13

It's great to see betas are flowing. Wish I could get some. I gather it's a luck of the draw thing as to if you get one? I have beta ticked on my windows profile. Is that all I have to do? Thanks in advance.

Hi Speedy51, yes, a lot (an awful lot) is down to luck.

Basically, if your computer is asking for work at the time Beta WU's are available, then your computer should get 1 (or more - up to the limit of number of cores). Obviously, the more cores you've got, the higher your chances are.

Also, keeping an eye on announcements/the forum's will help - as that'll give you an idea as to when to look out for them (allowing you to select an "intermittent" project/one with no WU's available at that time), and increase your cache by (say) 0.25/0.50, which should then force your BOINC mgr to go and fetch more (hopefully Beta) WU's.

Just select Intermittent Project only. Since none intermitten WUs are availalbe, BETA WUs will then be only units you receive. devilish

Re: BETA Clean Energy Project phase 2 version 6.35

The strategy that worked for me was to stop caring. After I hit silver, I haven't put any effort into trying to snag Beta WUs. With this last batch, I hit 15 on three computers. After that, I got another 3 repair units.

Without even trying, I've made half the headway to gold in less than 2 months. It took me over four years to get the silver. So yes, it's mostly luck.
