Although this thread is now going off topic ever so slightly, the change the techs made a few months ago (where they limited the number of Beta WU's to the number of cores on any one machine), certainly removed a lot of luck out of the Beta badge-hunting process, as it resulted in a far wider spread of machines they go to. You've still got to have your machine in the right place at the right time though

Managed to grab a few of these. None have errored, all are either valid or pending. Actual crunch time is close to run time, usually around 10 or 20 mins difference but I have been using the computer while crunching some of these betas.
----------------------------------------One thing I have noticed though is on 3 of these units, job 2 took a lot more time to do than the other jobs. BETA_ E200562_ 958_ A.24.C17H11N3SSe2Si.6.1.set1d06_ 1-- 3 hours of a 8.5 hour completion time BETA_ E200562_ 350_ A.27.C18H9N5OS3.167.4.set1d06_ 1-- 3hours 10 min of 10 hour unit BETA_ E200564_ 466_ A.27.C19H9N3O2S3.67.4.set1d06_ 0-- 3 hour 45 min of an 11 hour unit I know the computer was not being used for any other purpose than crunching at these times. A couple of other units have some longer job times but I know I was using the computer at the time. |

Out of a total of 22 units spread across 3 machines, there was 1 error, and 1 no reply (now out for repair), and all the rest validated.
----------------------------------------Edit: the 1 error had the same form as the last post. [Edit 1 times, last edit by genes at Nov 7, 2010 1:43:49 AM] |

The distribution this time does not seem to be linear as I didn't get a single Wu on the PC that received them previously but I did get a small 'sprinkling' to three other PC's that I have recently added Beta to their work selections!
----------------------------------------The number of WU's to cores was pretty irrelevant as if you only receive a single WU for an 8 core CPU, it's hardly going to be stressed, is it? This Beta set seem to be a bit better behaved than the last, there were no unscheduled restarts or other inappropriate behaviour (but based on the throughput of a handful of WU's, that's hardly a resounding endorsement), so the techs must be applauded for sorting out the previous teething troubles!! Well done guys!! Will there be another round? |

I hope the tech's are so kind that they will explain these RC's:
----------------------------------------RC= Valid 0x1 0xc0000005 - very common; "access violation"; but it turns out to be valid? Invalid 0xc000013a ????? -148 0x1c 0x2b |

Managed to get 3 resends from the Nov 1st initial send on three diif machines.
----------------------------------------One of them got stuck at @35% with this message: 2010-11-07 09:38:24|World Community Grid|Task BETA_E200520_561_A.25.C20H14N2OSSi.142.4.set1d06_2 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 2010-11-07 09:38:24|World Community Grid|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 2010-11-07 09:38:24|World Community Grid|Task X0000107390835200902201040_1 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file 2010-11-07 09:38:24|World Community Grid|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. 2010-11-07 09:38:25|World Community Grid|Restarting task BETA_E200520_561_A.25.C20H14N2OSSi.142.4.set1d06_2 using beta11 version 635 2010-11-07 09:38:25|World Community Grid|Restarting task X0000107390835200902201040_1 using hcc1 version 608 It was running along a HCC WU. I rebooted the computer, Beta WU restarted @4% and completed without problems this time. RIG: Athlon 64 x2 @2Ghz, 2Gb mem, Win XPx86 This is my eldest's daughter computer, I suspect it has something to do with the fact that she hibernates the computer often, never cold booting... I'm still crunching 7 BETA resends.

Just think of the hours you'll add towards your Beta totals
