sad Problem setting proxy

Hi all,
I'm succesfully working with ud agent both in my factory and at home (I use a notebook), but I can't work successfully by using boinc agent.

At home there are no problem with both agents, having no proxy between my computer and the web, but at work... confused

I use winxp pro, and the latest version of boinc agent (5.10.22)

With ud agent I set HTTPS in proxy type field, the name of proxy in the right filed, 3128 in proxy port then check 'use autentication' and set the right username and password and... everything works well.

But using BOINC there's something strange.
I try to set the same values in advanced-options-http proxy (connect via http proxy server, address and port (3128) and the right username and password but I obtain messages as follows:
04/10/2007 12.20.13|World Community Grid|[file_xfer] Started download of file wcg_hpf2_rosetta_5.18_windows_intelx86
04/10/2007 12.20.14|World Community Grid|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed download of wcg_hpf2_rosetta_5.18_windows_intelx86: http error
04/10/2007 12.20.14|World Community Grid|Backing off 3 hr 34 min 2 sec on download of file wcg_hpf2_rosetta_5.18_windows_intelx86
confused
Why and/or how can I force BOINC to work? (actually I dowload/upload when I'm at home and let BOINC work when I'm at work, but in this way, there is a lot of time in wich BOINC can't work).

I thought it could be the proxy settings (https in ud, http in BOINC).

I can't anyway change anything in my factory configuration (ports used, proxy, etc).

Thanks for any suggestion smile

Re: Problem setting proxy

I think this is a known issue. Please will you go here http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php and try BOINC 5.10.20.

Also, please will you confirm what kind of proxy you are using?

Information about this issue: it was fixed in 5.10.20 by upgrading the network library, libcurl. Unfortunately, this caused some other issues, so the library was downgraded again.

Re: Problem setting proxy

Same here, I use UD because the https proxy works.
BOINC doesn't give you that option and fails to download over http.
And now WCG is going to 'drop' the UD client so when that stops I can't participate anymore.
Is BOINC ever going to release a https proxy version?
(or can you edit some config file to let it use https?)

Re: Problem setting proxy

I hope WCG administrators realize that when they will let UD clinet die, without having fixed all BOINC matters, they will loose a lot of users and machines sad

Re: Problem setting proxy

Please will you both tell us exactly what proxy you are using?

Re: Problem setting proxy

Maybe add a debug flag to the <log_flags> section of the cc_config.xml to see if this brings anything else to light within BOINC

<proxy_debug>1</proxy_debug>

The 5.10 BOINC menu has an option "Read Config" which loads the file without having to restart the client.

Re: Problem setting proxy

Ehm... please don't overstimate my know-how about networking blushing
I know that my factory use internet connections via a proxy, that the proxy is https and that uses 3128 port; in fact everything works well with ud agent where I can select https, proxyname and port number.
I don't know what other information I can supply (and if I'm able to supply). blushing

Re: Problem setting proxy

Which tells me nothing, I'm afraid. I need to know what the proxy software is.

Anyway, if you make sure you are using BOINC 5.10.20 and have set up the logging Sekerob recommended (and http_debug as well), then please will you provide a complete message log from when it starts up onwards?

Thank you.

If the cc_config.xml file doesn't exist, then create it and put this in it:

<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<proxy_debug>1</proxy_debug>
<http_debug>1</http_debug>
</log_flags>
<options />
</cc_config>
