Maybe add a debug flag to the <log_flags> section of the cc_config.xml to see if this brings anything else to light within BOINC <proxy_debug>1</proxy_debug> The 5.10 BOINC menu has an option "Read Config" which loads the file without having to restart the client. Sorry, but I can't find this file. The only xml files I have in Boinc directory are: account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml all_projects_list.xml all_projects_list_temp.xml client_state.xml client_state_prev.xml get_current_version.xml get_project_config.xml global_prefs.xml global_prefs_override.xml lookup_account.xml master_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml sched_reply_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml sched_request_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml statistics_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml and (in subdirectory ........\BOINC\slots\0 init_data.xml wcg_ad4-result.xml and noone of these files has a string <log_flags> inside However, in ............ I found: <proxy_info> <use_http_auth/> <socks_version>5</socks_version> <socks_server_name></socks_server_name> <socks_server_port>80</socks_server_port> <http_server_name>proxyname</http_server_name> <http_server_port>3128</http_server_port> <socks5_user_name></socks5_user_name> <socks5_user_passwd></socks5_user_passwd> <http_user_name>myusername</http_user_name> <http_user_passwd>mypassword</http_user_passwd> </proxy_info> ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by fotodiandrea at Oct 5, 2007 3:00:07 PM] |

Which tells me nothing, I'm afraid. I need to know what the proxy software is. Anyway, if you make sure you are using BOINC 5.10.20 and have set up the logging Sekerob recommended (and http_debug as well), then please will you provide a complete message log from when it starts up onwards? Thank you. If the cc_config.xml file doesn't exist, then create it and put this in it: <cc_config> Done. In order to have a clean log I closed and restarted BOINC, and it's all the messages: 05/10/2007 17.04.26||Unparsed tag in cc_config.xml: <options /> 05/10/2007 17.04.26||Starting BOINC client version 5.10.20 for windows_intelx86 05/10/2007 17.04.26||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops, http_debug, proxy_debug 05/10/2007 17.04.26||Libraries: libcurl/7.16.4 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 05/10/2007 17.04.26||Data directory: C:\Winappl\Util\WorldCommunityGrid\BOINC 05/10/2007 17.04.26||Processor: 1 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.80GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 13 Stepping 6] 05/10/2007 17.04.26||Processor features: fpu tsc sse sse2 mmx 05/10/2007 17.04.26||OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Professional Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00) 05/10/2007 17.04.26||Memory: 1022.92 MB physical, 1.64 GB virtual 05/10/2007 17.04.26||Disk: 51.23 GB total, 7.52 GB free 05/10/2007 17.04.26||Local time is UTC +1 hours 05/10/2007 17.04.27|World Community Grid|URL: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID: 265466; location: home; project prefs: default 05/10/2007 17.04.27||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 2007-08-24 15:56:08) 05/10/2007 17.04.27||Host location: home 05/10/2007 17.04.27||General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 05/10/2007 17.04.27||Reading preferences override file 05/10/2007 17.04.27||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 1022.92MB 05/10/2007 17.04.27||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 1022.92MB 05/10/2007 17.04.27||Preferences limit disk usage to 0.93GB 05/10/2007 17.04.27||[http_debug] HTTP_OP::init_get(): http://boinc.berkeley.edu/project_list.php 05/10/2007 17.04.29|World Community Grid|Restarting task dddt0101a0138_ZINC04955841-0001_05_1 using dddt version 508 05/10/2007 17.04.29|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work 05/10/2007 17.04.29|World Community Grid|Requesting 6331 seconds of new work, and reporting 1 completed tasks 05/10/2007 17.04.29||[http_debug] HTTP_OP::init_post(): https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi 05/10/2007 17.04.29||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: Closing connection #0 05/10/2007 17.04.29||[http_debug] HTTP error: couldn't resolve host name 05/10/2007 17.04.29||[http_debug] [ID#1] info: Closing connection #1 05/10/2007 17.04.29||[http_debug] HTTP error: couldn't resolve host name 05/10/2007 17.04.32|World Community Grid|Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name 05/10/2007 17.04.32|World Community Grid|Deferring communication for 1 min 0 sec 05/10/2007 17.04.32|World Community Grid|Reason: scheduler request failed 05/10/2007 17.05.34|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work 05/10/2007 17.05.34|World Community Grid|Requesting 5683 seconds of new work, and reporting 1 completed tasks 05/10/2007 17.05.34||[http_debug] HTTP_OP::init_post(): https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi 05/10/2007 17.05.34||[http_debug] HTTP_OP::init_get(): http://boinc.berkeley.edu/project_list.php 05/10/2007 17.05.35||[http_debug] [ID#2] info: Closing connection #0 05/10/2007 17.05.35||[http_debug] [ID#3] info: Closing connection #1 05/10/2007 17.05.35||[http_debug] HTTP error: couldn't resolve host name 05/10/2007 17.05.35||[http_debug] HTTP error: couldn't resolve host name 05/10/2007 17.05.36||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 05/10/2007 17.05.36||[http_debug] HTTP_OP::init_get(): http://www.google.com 05/10/2007 17.05.39|World Community Grid|Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name 05/10/2007 17.05.39|World Community Grid|Deferring communication for 1 min 0 sec 05/10/2007 17.05.39|World Community Grid|Reason: scheduler request failed 05/10/2007 17.05.43||[http_debug] [ID#4] info: Closing connection #0 05/10/2007 17.05.43||[http_debug] HTTP error: couldn't resolve host name 05/10/2007 17.05.44||Access to reference site failed - check network connection or proxy configuration. ![]() |

Thank you.
Well, this is unusual. There are no proxy errors - instead, there seems to be a DNS problem. This will require some thought. |

If it can be usefull for you, the same problem occurs on different machines in my factory when i try boinc agent, on the same machines ud agent works well, and BOINC agent works well when I use my notebook with a direct internet connection (adsl) at home. ![]() |

In the BOINC options, can you double check that you have the check box to use HTTP proxy 'Checked'? I have just run the same config setup, and got the proxy connections. 05/10/2007 12:40:22 PM|World Community Grid|(not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks) 05/10/2007 12:40:22 PM||[http_debug] HTTP_OP::init_post(): https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: About to connect() to proxy 172.16.1.80 port 8080 (#0) 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: Trying 172.16.1.80... 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: Connected to 172.16.1.80 (172.16.1.80) port 8080 (#0) 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: Establish HTTP proxy tunnel to secure.worldcommunitygrid.org:443 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] Sent header to server: CONNECT secure.worldcommunitygrid.org:443 HTTP/1.0 Host: secure.worldcommunitygrid.org:443 User-Agent: BOINC client (windows_intelx86 5.10.13) Proxy-Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] Received header from server: HTTP/1.1 200 Connection established 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] Received header from server: 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: Proxy replied OK to CONNECT request 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: successfully set certificate verify locations: 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: CAfile: ca-bundle.crt CApath: none 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: SSLv2, Client hello (1): 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: SSLv3, TLS handshake, Server hello (2): 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: SSLv3, TLS handshake, CERT (11): 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: SSLv3, TLS handshake, Server finished (14): 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: SSLv3, TLS handshake, Client key exchange (16): 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: SSLv3, TLS change cipher, Client hello (1): 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: SSLv3, TLS handshake, Finished (20): 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: SSLv3, TLS change cipher, Client hello (1): 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: SSLv3, TLS handshake, Finished (20): 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: SSL connection using AES256-SHA 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: Server certificate: 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: subject: /C=US/O=Argonne National Laboratory/OU=MCS Division, Argonne National Laboratory/CN=secure.worldcommunitygrid.org 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: start date: 2006-10-04 21:06:55 GMT 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: expire date: 2008-10-15 21:38:33 GMT 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: common name: secure.worldcommunitygrid.org (matched) 05/10/2007 12:40:23 PM||[http_debug] [ID#0] info: issuer: /C=US/O=Entrust.net/OU=www.entrust.net/CPS incorp. by ref. My company uses an ISA server and requires authorization.
Now with UD I can choose HTTPS instead of HTTP proxy (which internally must make a difference or something). The HTTPS proxy runs on a different port (443) than the standard HTTP proxy (which is port 8080). So can I just say that BOINC has to use Port 443 in the HTTP proxy config? I think not because there's a difference between HTTP and HTTPS traffic. Anyway, using the same settings with username and password in BOINC client just gives the following error: HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required Why can't BOINC just include a https proxy config? |

And I seem to have found something funny.
----------------------------------------I seem to be able to connect via http and attach a project and download some files which are all on http servers. But then BOINC also want's to download some files of a https server. This is the problem I think. With the ISA server http is on port 8080 but https is on port 443. So it can't download the https stuff (the workunit!) and gives a message saying: HTTP error: fault when receiving data from the peer (It want's to talk http to an SSL server, not good!) The DOWNLOADS can run on port 8080.
----------------------------------------Port 443 must be open for the secure UPLOADS. We also assume that permission has been given from the company and the security folks to do all of this.

retsof, not helping :-p - downloads and uploads are both encrypted.
DvE, based on my sketchy proxy knowledge, I would expect it to work just fine with the http proxy on 8080. All other proxies work that way - the SSL connection is simply forwarded by the proxy, and the proxy can't decrypt the information passing between client and server. I'm not familiar with the concept of using different proxies for http and https communication. If you want me to help further, you will have to provide a WireShark trace so I can analyse the whole connection. Often the proxy returns extended error information that helps solve problems like this. |
