Have a team challenge problem? Then you have come to the right thread my friend. Come help and become part of the answer as well
----------------------------------------The following posts are here to show interactive work being done between those us, as well the admins, to improve reliability during the phases of development this system may encounter. So don’t worry about how large or small the issue. It’s all good here. For if even microscopic, we wont know until you say it. It is hoped that by having a speedy path of communication will promote early warning and avoidance that could slow progress of this new and very beneficial tool. The following is the first problem [edited]: _____________________________________________________ There are 2 identical team challenges. They need to be combined. The name is "October Points Challenge". Sorry, I must have opps'ed and started the second one by mistake. Please fix before the races start. ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 5 times, last edit by courine at Sep 28, 2007 12:53:36 AM] |

Passed to the back-room. It's a pain, but the challenger and challenged ideally should agree before hand who initiates a (closed) challenge and who accepts.
----------------------------------------Can you post the link to the one you wish deleted. Don't think combining is an option. Don't want one to be arbitrarily removed.

The older one has challenge id 230 and was already initialized after Sunday night's stats. Courine's has challenge id 244. Maybe she had "the same idea at the same time", but not on the same day.

One has 45 participants so far and the other 22, so the admin is in for a hack.... but who is racing who.... i certainly am fearful of what courines legs will bring to the table

Luckily for me, all the teams that had signed up for the new challenge were already in the old challenge - and no one else had joined the new one.
![]() So, now there's only one. |

Good to see!
----------------------------------------![]() I'm currently looking into what happened the moments before and during the error creation. I can't recreate the error mode exactly now, so am looking for possible similar error modes to help nail the exact issue that caused the primary problem. What I remember is that the challenge seemed missing. I looked around a bit, as it seemed odd that the third of the three challenges was not shown in the lists I saw. ![]() It wasn’t my intent to create this problem, but most of the best solutions are not born in error free environments. That is why I changed the name of this tread. To help promote a robust future for the challenge system here at WCG. Thanks again, nelsoc. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ever thought it would be nice if the team captains could yell at each other during races? Whether it be champagne or bag of flaming dog dung, it should help to set the mood.
----------------------------------------The problem is that not all the teams have a forum thread. A way to fix this is to require a registration (namely a team thread or email) be posted with the teams name. But until then, I posted a thread in Teams forum. It would be good if the captain's of each team in the running get an email pointing to it. This is suggested to help prevent leveling of involvement in the team challenge system by encouraging team communications. ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by courine at Sep 21, 2007 7:32:46 AM] |

New Problem: No leagues!
----------------------------------------Yes Sek, it would be nice to have an US vs THEM battle structure, but it goes farther than that. Right now, Grand Melle style competiton is good to search out what were are. In the end though, we will see that only a few teams will have a chance. As it is, you can see the splits between team groups widen. So to prevent this eliminating low-end competition from wishing to play at all, leagues will be the answer. This is not a problem right now, but it will be by the end of Oct. I'm just addressing the need now to provide time to encounter this issue before it becomes one. There are many ways to handle this, but all will require an addition to the already existing structure. It revolves around combining team scores so that they, as a group, can do battle. This, and a scoreboard that shows placements in past races combined, would help bring into perspective the sporting elements better. Even though this may take a bit more than a few minutes to build, realize that once the basic skeleton of systems stand firm, the rest will come from the teams themselves. The leagues could be made autonomous and run themselves, using those naughty non-mushroom type crunchers (like me) to help build the leagues. AND for you, the exit strategy that will keep the cost of the team challenge system down. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

New Problem: No Lock-out System
----------------------------------------There is a race that points to having only 2 people on any team involved. Well he may have wanted it that way, but dont think it has quite gone that way. I'm in a race where I will win by such a margin, that I and the second place team should just leave that "closer" race alone. In fact I would have if had known now, back then. To prevent problems like this from slicing at the low teams, a lock-out system would allow races to be "classed" and keep competiton close. In November, I will launch a 4 legged all-round competition. Only the top 3 of any race can enter. So, this time, I can use the "closed" challenge option, as I can run down the list and create the invitational. But this is actually a work-around, as the list right now is small. If a movement to promote league comes to be, then this will be a primary control function. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Comment in the sister thread regarding leagues:
----------------------------------------"Im trying to bring up the concept of leagues in the suggestion box. This would make it possible for all teams to be involved. Right now, only a few mid-range teams can really use the system and have it be a race. To low and you fall off the bottom. Too high and the race becomes predetermined. There are ways we can work around this problem, but in the end, there will be a need for tools to have leagues work here. The question is "will they understand fast enough, to start the fix process now, before the momentum of the current wave of involvment is lost?" Why? Because the time it will take to get the framework needed to make the league concept work, could be months. I just shot a 4 part 4 week race for Oct. This should help bolster the wave, to add even more time. But unless something is done, the races will dwindle as they center in on themselves. Leaving only 1 team, and they will notice they are alone." See, I'e been alone. So, dont let my past become your future. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
