All this challenge stuff seems complimicated. That was only ONE challenge, which is now underway. What's all of the squabble about ONE challenge? I saw something earlier about "a week to set up." What's to set up? The captain joins it, and you're done. If y'all vote on them, do it fast. Some pop up quickly, as you have noticed. Can teams still enter the Christmas race or whatever it's called? There are many upcoming challenges that you can join. Challenges starting December 3, including a different Christmas race, are already underway. Did you join that one? This is stats hour, so I can't display any of them at the moment.

I'm beginning to suspect we aren't speaking the same language. Das ist schade / то слишком плох / quello è troppo difettoso / αυτός πάρα πολύ κακός / te slecht dat / c'est trop mauvais / isso é demasiado mau / eso es demasiado maloI'm saying that there IS a beginning date, and there IS an end date. But teams should be allowed to join after the beginning date. And their points should accrue from their join date, not the start date, which is an obvious handicap to the late-joining team, and no one else. If you are running in a real race, you can't jump in late, even if you don't win.

It was an unfortunate situation where the captain was unavailable, but the team (or a team member) wanted to join. They got the captain changed, but too late for this specific challenge.
Unfortunate, but really not the end of the world. |

Challenges are explained here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=tmch The normal way to find explanatory pages like this is to click on the red 'HELP' in the upper right (just below 'Sign Out'). The Team Captain can go to the Challenge Control Panel (in My Grid - My Team) to join a challenge. Lawrence |

Yes, there are other challenges. The thing that is unique about that particular challenge, is that it is getting a lot of buzz outside of WCG, and actually bringing in *new* crunchers and/or reallocating crunching from other BOINC projects. We were *this* close in getting the largest BOINC team to focus on WCG. Unfortunately, now they have moved on to other projects, and other races outside of WCG. Maybe there will be another challenge that will get them interested again. "Buzz" can be a difficult thing to generate.

We were *this* close in getting the largest BOINC team to focus on WCG. Unfortunately, now they have moved on to other projects, and other races outside of WCG. That is also unfortunate. I wouldn't have thought that it would have made much difference for crunching, but we could always set up a challenge with THEIR name in it. They would have to come over here to investigate.
