Re: Team Challenge problem....

courine, what do you mean about the HCC problem and your team? I looked at your stats on stats.free-dc.org and you all have normal stats. What does this have to do with preventing you from being in a challenge? confused

rose Re: Team Challenge problem....

NOW I have normal stats. During Dec., I went from being a top 50 team to top 100 and back. The reason is that, being a cancer crunching team from grid.org, we all went for HCC. This amplified the problem for us to a point that I would be loosing crew more than points.

Currently I'm working on a way to move systems in my team to work the best they can, considering what they are. It took almost 3 weeks to resolve this through personal analysis and reports from others. The answer that yields the most production is:

1) All machines below 1GHz or are PC100/133 with less than 1 gig of memory, move to DDDT.

2) All other single core machines move to HCC

3) Move all the rest to FightAIDS@Home and/or Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2.

AfricanClimate@Home was not included in the analysis as there are only a few WU's around. So I cant say where it falls.

Let me also note that the effect is not stable and the evaluation took time, so there is an explainable margin of error.

The reason why I say this now, is if the problems cant be fixed easily by the tech's, there is much that can be done by releasing what I just said in the first post of the games. But I'm sure you can see why it would not be wise. So I place the post here, in a smaller venue, to make this point the clearest with the least exposure.

Please note also that this is not a directive or recommendation by the WCG's admin's in any way and should be considered peer to peer communication only. For further information, my email is at everyone’s disposal.

If there is a question of "Do I have the spirit to run the games?" Let me put it this way.....

[courine struck by PTSD, has delusional episode. Thinks she is Robert Duval in Apocalypse Now, flips her mic on and yells over the noise]

Hear that Diane? Its the sound of CPU Fans! I love the sound of CPU fans. There is no sound like it.. It reminds me of the fight back in grid.org, where every result, every point, every hour of CPU time was met with a salute.

You know, I cant quite place it. That whirring? But to me, there's nothing like waking to the sound of CPU fans in the morning. It seems to sound like a call. It sounds like?... It sounds like?..... victory.

You know Diane, someday this will all be over. Every work unit complete. In heavens name, what will we do?

Re: Team Challenge problem....

courine glad to see your back to full crunching then.

I run all the projects with my Dual core and I did pay attention to HCC page faults as they were discussed in the HCC forum. I never had a problem running them.

Here is my start up log:

Re: Team Challenge problem....

How long (in CPU time) does your duo take on average for HCC jobs Diana? Think most all 'Vista' machines are fine running dual/quad (Q6600) is so far what I've been hearing and experiencing around the block. Since I've still got Vista in shrink wrap belonging to the duo laptop, going to try dual boot set up and see if it handles it quicker than XP pro since there is lots of PF, but only some PF-Delta and no points penalty. Vista shows virtually no Delta and little if graphics frame is activated (get MS patch 940105 as it might help :-).

AND, NOW I DISCOVERED, THINK THE BASTARDOS SOLD ME A 64 BIT MACHINE AND put 32 bit Vista on it.... that explains why that box was 200 Euro cheaper and 2gb ram short now would it thinking. Only found out when upgrading the BIOS (from p06 to p11) and suddenly the bootup sequence is telling me all this wonderful stuff. Not sure if the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2 confirms but x86-64 suggests this kentsfield is one of those animals. Any tweaker around to confirm?

(oh so sorry for the off topic, said pinocchio liar )

Don't complain too much. Vista64 doesn't have many drivers out there yet. Vista32 is fine unless you want to use more than 4 Gb of memory.

Re: Team Challenge problem....

Sekerob, on average HCC takes 7.30 in CPU time on my pc. I don't overclock.

Eventually, I am going to get another Gig of ram whenever I stop procrastinating :)

I thought I had Vista 64 as well but found out downloading something from Comodo for the 64 version and it said I had the 32 bit version laughing

Re: Team Challenge problem....

You know its really sad that I wont have a team by the time I could launch WCG Sport as a league. Something many here would love to see happen. Not the league happening, me leaving WCG.

For see Diana, you were the only person here that cared that I completed on this. Everyone else has been so darn sheepish. But I said to myself, what the heck and continued, thinking that more would come to understand the value.

What I now know is if I launched the league at any time, far more than the HCC project would be exposed as having problems. The exposure would be as broad as saying "this was not a sister project to grid.org, it's the evil stepchild."

If there is a question to why the term "gorg" is used to slander the name and deface those who crunched there, (an action that only shows the lack of social character) seems to be quite amiss. The part about where we won our war at grid.org on Apr 6, is completely overlooked and replaced it with the failure on the 27 only, drives this point home even more clearly.

Well I have a new term. It's called "worg". I would use it widely and strongly except then I would be guilty of same character assassination freely allowed here.

Im sorry, I wont go that low, even though I feel this place is a mar on the future of DC.

Do you want to know why this is? I would tell you, but I'm now too busy writing emails to reform my team elsewhere. But if you really must know, would you try to help a group that has the social awareness of a child. Hey, I even tried. What do I get for being an avid cruncher and a good team captain, a stab in the back.

Now, if you can nelsoc, please take the time to lock this tread, before I return the favor.

Re: Team Challenge problem....

courine, that was unusually cryptic.

Please can you give some context? Pretend I'm really stupid, and use small words. Who is stabbing you in the back? Why?

Re: Team Challenge problem....

D.

Just think, you don’t have to figure this out. But I did have to change the post for readability, as I left out a sentence. So now go back and see if it is just as cryptic.

The part you will see, is that I'm not pointing to the tech issues here. Just this social one that is obvious.

The problems with the team challenge system are so dramatic, that is I launch even the most simple league system, it would be the end of this place. If you don’t understand this, then think what would happen if all the teams here were to look really closely at their stats. For that is what has happened in my team, and is why I must ask them where they want to crunch next, if they dare crunch again at all.

If you want something more personal, you even tried to infer I was a hacker with in a few hours of my arrival. Want me to go get the quote? For if so, then I will also grab the quote that basically said: sit down, shut up, plug in and be glad you have a place to crunch at all.

The one thing I do feel fortunate about is I found this now and not after I requested my parent group join. If that should have happened, I would be booted from there as well, as this is suppose to be their philanthropic contribution to the world. What is going to happen there is this will be known as Cora's folly. Well, I don’t blame them. They are right.
