After nearly five years with grid.org, I too am a refugee, with my cheap suitcase and waiting to exchange my foreign currency. Glad to be here and am running, via the BOINC client, at 100%. Pedal to the metal is my philosphy
Truly an odd day to wake up to see grid.org go away and then, not quite ending the day, to be welcomed to WCG. |

Welcome chuckf1 - a sad day indeed for Grid.org
Unpack your belongings, relax a while with a cool beer - then make your way around the forum to make yourself familiar ![]() |

Peeks in. Sneaks in side door and settles in. Another grid.org refugee has arrived.

Hello.
Add yet another grid.org refugee to the ranks. I was with grid.org for three years, but I think I like this site better already! I get the feeling that project progress will be a bit easier to come by here... |

There may not be hourly or daily progress reports, but there is always something now and then. A small cancer project just finished, and another large one will start soon. Help cure Muscular Dystrophy is running in UD only for now. A phase 2 could be expanded to BOINC based on the results of phase 1.

Almost 19 years of CPU time at Grid.org, but I'm already happy with the look and feel of WCG. I was used to the occasional WU that took 10-15hrs on my AMD 1.8Ghz machines ...now I'm pumping out WUs like we're back at the old Cancer Phase 1. Also, it doesn't look like my PIIIs are going to do a WU per day, but perhaps 3+!!!
---------------------------------------- Now if I could just find a UD network monitor that doesn't need BOINC. ![]()
(((AMDxp 1.8ghz - AMDxp 1.8ghz - PIII 1Ghz - PIII 1Ghz - PIII 1Ghz - PIII 933Mhz - PIII 800Mhz - AMDK6 800Mhz {All running 24/7} ))) & an AMDsempron3600+ @ 75%throttle randomly

Also, it doesn't look like my PIIIs are going to do a WU per day, but perhaps 3+!!! Forget it. All new development around here seems to be BOINC related. There is a lot of expertise in the background here at IBM, and at Berkeley BOINCville. Genome Comparison seems to work best on PIIIs and has the shortest workunits. I have a PIII 0.5GHz that is barely qualified. Now if I could just find a UD network monitor that doesn't need BOINC. ![]() This place is running MULTIPLE projects, so the programs wouldn't even have to be UD.EXE, and I doubt that they all are. With the 2 day grid.org silent shutdown, I doubt whether there will be much development on that side. It will even be more fun if ex-grid.org members happen to be working for any grid users. A strange reputation can get around.

And here are todays statistics on member/device-growth
----------------------------------------members devicesMaybe not quite accurate, but it looks promising! (but ofcourse I'm unaware of WCG daily average growth before the grid.org exodus...)

One of the staff has been tracking the numbers for us. I'll ask him to post the numbers from the "invasion" after the rush is over - probably it will calm down by mid week.
