Hi everyone: I'm NixChix and I was a cruncher at Grid.org for 5 years. I just found the place shut down and feel like a dope. Like I've had 5 years taken away from me. Here I am now standing at the door of the "dreaded" WCG with 2 posts to my name. I don't know if I'm ready for a new relationship yet. It is reassuring to see some familiar names. I'm glad that some are still using them here. Welcome Nix, great to cya. I had a LOT of crunching over there, so don't feel like the Lone ranger! Welcome to WCG. from what I've seen so far, it will be a better relationship! If you need anything, just hollar! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi all, I'm another grid.org refugee
Just under 23 years of CPU time done, and I have just got a bunch of new Xeon CPUs with nothing to do.... Anyone else from the Blabbermouths here yet? I was Roger Rabbit over there, but the name was taken here ![]() |

Hi, I also moved over from the grid. Been there since 2004. Too bad it has ended the way it did. But it seems we have found a new home here. ![]() |

I was just wandering: at grid.org we "almost " started a project betatesting the new UD client software. (It would support multi cores)
----------------------------------------Ofcourse everything disappeared into the Twilight Zone... Does a new version of this client exist?

Thank you for the welcome. :) Actually, my one and only contribution to the grid.org forums was a message saying goodbye. Unfortunately, I see that rather than just closing them for new messages, they've removed them completely.
I can't be considered a major contributor. I've installed a client on my work computer a few times, but having signed a paper that I wouldn't install anything without permission, and they'd probably me more sceptical about anything that sent out data on a regular basis anyway, I couldn't be bothered to argue. So for most of the time, I've only had one PC running. I should have remembered to save my stats, but I remember that I'd clocked up about 2 years and 100 days of CPU time. Since the total had recently passed half a million years, do I matter at all? I sure hope that the accumulated work at grid.org hasn't been wasted. I used to have SETI@home installed, but mostly because we lost a family member to cancer, I switched to a cancer related project. Now I see that with the BOINC software, I can run both, and I was even able to retrieve my old stats from seven years ago. |

Hi YNGVARFO,
I used to have SETI@home installed, but mostly because we lost a family member to cancer, I switched to a cancer related project. Now I see that with the BOINC software, I can run both, and I was even able to retrieve my old stats from seven years ago. One of the nice features of BOINC (not all 'features' are nice!) is that there is no lock-in. You can run projects from a number of different organizations without too much trouble. The World Community Grid is just one fish in the sea. Lawrence |
