Re: Welcome all Grid.org Refugees to WCG!!

Hello Ron The Navigator,
If you install BOINC, the default profile will run up to 4 threads if it can, so your duals will automatically run 2 threads. Actually, if you have hyperthreading Pentium IV cpus and you do not want them running 2 threads, you have to set up a second profile that only allows 1 thread and assign the Pentium IV cpus to use that profile. BOINC has 3 pre-named profiles: Home, Work and School.

The Cancer is not possible just now. We have just finished Help Defeat Cancer and will not start our next Cancer Project for several months. Why not just set for 'All Projects' for the moment and read the project descriptions in the Research tab?

Lawrence

Not sure about the 4..... thought to have seen kevin wrote 16.... 30 per core with a per-machine maximum of 480 work units per day..... yes and there are some around that do more than 30 valid results per core per day. They get a special Boss (knreed) exemption :D

Added: yup... my test account, on creating a new profile put On multiprocessors, at most use: 16 processors in there.... hypnotized

Optimistically, the next Help XXXXXXX Cancer will start, lets say, before Europe goes on their 2 months (wishful thinking) holiday. We were told that the code was good in first tests, but like HPF2 there can always be an unexpected snag or 2..... sign up to the Beta Testing program and you might be the first to see it in the wild praying

Well, I got my gold star, the team get 2 and did 7000+ results in 11years. The grid did 1/2 million CPU years and 75 billion points, but just shy ot the 400 million results. Well, 2 out of 3 aint bad.

You know, the reason why I started doing this was because my dad died from cancer many years ago. It was on the 35th anniversary, of his passing I joined up.

When I look up at these stat's, I think he would be quite proud. And that is the way I feel too. Carrying on a fight I lost so long ago. Just this time, Im not 12 and I dont have plans to loose anytime soon. I dont have cancer, but it hurts me just the same.

Re: Welcome all Grid.org Refugees to WCG!!

I lost my Mother and Grandmother to Cancer.
I was born with a tumor in my face and have had it removed three times. I also had cancer of the tongue and thyroid.

I started doing research on the SETI project.
I was in the top 100 in individual production over there when I left.
But when I found out about a Cancer project, I switched.
When they get another cancer project here, you know where my cycles will go.

Stories like these made me participate. This is what drives me. Although I'm blessed not to be a victim of cancer (nor my direct family/friends thank God), it still affects me.

WCG welcomed us with open arms, so now grid.org refugees, let's make them proud! Let's go to work!

I popped in from grid.org too... member since Dec 2001. My stats are no where near those of cargod01, but I did give him a run for his money last summer and intend to do so here this summer with a whole passle of CPUs.
