got a lil question.. how can i add my existing ud/dled from wcg to my newly installed boinc. or does it run seperate.. happens to be 3 projects goping all at once 2 in boinc and 1 in ud You should not run run both the UD client and Boinc - Boinc will utilise all the CPU cores and power on your PC, so delete the UD client and just use Boinc ![]() |

these numbers only reflect members and devices that have actually returned results, not the grid.org inflated stats. It's laughable they claim now on their final page to have been doing 210 CPU years per day on exit. That was the all time average! Sweet! It always irked me how they bandied those numbers about with most folks full knowing that they weren't legit. Some of us started an attempt at a unscientific approach to guess the level of actual participation by cross-checking the "First 5000 registered" volunteers list against their "last results returned" date. With the help of a script and wget, I got through about the first 800 or so and arrived at about a 12% pariticipation rate. I can't remember if I shared those numbers at the grid.org forums or not... it was about a couple of years ago. There is time lapse obviously between becoming a member and getting thru the statistics..... count on 48 hours before a trickle thru starts to show in full. Makes sense in light of your words above. So, I'll just keep watching. |

There's a well kept secret page (at grid.org), that showed the final day (April 26) as having had 60390 active devices (returning a result, good or bad). WCG on that same day had 60773 full CPU days as in 60773*24 hours of CPU time!
----------------------------------------http://vspx27.stanford.edu/DCcomparison.html The page is at the moment broken as the sequential script is not finding the grid.org data any more. Visit the "The Road To 65,000 CPU day a day thread " in the Chat Room to see daily graphing per project for WCG. cheers

Is there a performance difference between the Bionic client and the united devices client? I've come over from the grid and haven't decided which one to use.
Thanks, Adam |

Hi There
I was with grid.org since 2001, but also did a stint with THINK when my old computer couldn't handle the tasks it was sent any more from United Devices. My question is, where do I go to to find out what this CPU throttle is all about. Mine is displaying 60% even when it is running as the screen saver. I would have expected it to be 100%. |

Excellent, thanks esoteric17, I am now running at 100%. Since it is on all day while I am at work, couldn't see the sense in not using all that was there.
My old machine doesn't doesn't mind running at 100%. |

First, there is no real difference in speed between BOINC and UD. However, BOINC is still supported and can use the new multi-core CPUs. Also, it lets you run many projects that are not on the World Community Grid. So there is no lock-in.
Second, our Global Statistics design was copied from grid.org and does not show only active members and computers. Instead, it shows every installation and everybody that has ever registered (that has returned a result). Sigh. . . . I use http://vspx27.stanford.edu/DCcomparison.html to see how much daily crunching we are doing. Lawrence p.s. BOINC is a work in progress. With 5.8 we finally can use compression on both uploads and downloads. But now it takes an extra minute to Exit! The millenium is coming - - it's just over due. |

I'll keep an eye on this thread too. You are looking at about 100,000 possibles leaving there, all at once, tomorrow about noon. The word subtle is not quite the word I would use. More like INVASION! Yes, a nice gental subtle... invasion. If you get a real bewildered gridder, come get me. I may be able to talk them down.I'll be a few threads over. ![]() We are the Grorg of Grid.org. We will remake your website in our own image. Resistence is Futile - and we know about futility. ![]() ![]() |
