How’s the crunching going? Did WCG get their act together yet?

Iwould say they have 90+% of their act together. The flow of MCM units has been without a hitch lately. My queues remain full with no upload or download errors. More to the point is whether the researchers can get their acts together. The OPN crew will be looking at t e new target, but they have not released any of them yet. The ARP crew has indicated they are in the process of upgrading their storage. Once they get this accomplished they should resume sending out new units in volume.
I have not seen any scuttlebutt about new projects, but maybe Krembil is wise enough to not board any new projects until the existing ones are all up to speed. If they start releasing ARP units in volume again we will see if they break the system again or have solved the bottleneck problems for good.
I am content to keep the cancer units flowing, at least for the time being. Once the heating season is over, I may fire up another machine or two, but I don't want to blow up my utility bill for the moment.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Now that the end of February is approaching, I am certainly getting a bit weary of winter. At least I don't live in California. Man are they getting whipsawed. Blizzard warnings for Los Angeles - who knew ?
We had -5F(-20C) here this morning, but the sun is out and supposedly it will be 32F(0C) by this afternoon. But more snow is coming according to the forecast.
The good news is the chickens are laying pretty well as I think they lay better when the sun is out. Unfortunately, because of the demands by a lot of people to raise their own laying hens, I am getting my new chicks later than I normally would. I usually get them the first week in May, but now it will be the first week of July. The good part of that is I won't need the heat lamps as much when they get here.
I could have hatched out my own, but then you get half roosters. I don't have the ability to properly sex them at a day old and don't care to feed them until I can tell given the cost of feed.
So far the supply of MCM seems to be steady and I see they are now releasing some OPN units again. No problem today keeping mu systems fully employed.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

For anybody who is interested, Denis@Home now has new work units available, at least for a little while.

All:

Please tell everyone to review this link in the forums:

https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=682966

WCG needs an infusion of greenery, for St. Patrick's day, to help stop these constant problems.

Please donate whatever you can, $5 or $10 :::: if 1,000 crunchers can each donate at least $5, many of these problems get resolved PERMANENTLY.

Thanks for anything you can do .

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Seems like the writing is on the wall for the end of WCG. There's no way community donations will keep it running over the longer term.

It was nice knowing you all and contrubuting our compute power together. I wish for their continued success, but not holding my breath. Good day.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Thanks flynryan. There is a lot of history here but I share your sentiment. It feels like the best days are behind us. It was fun participating in the projects over the years and watching our numbers increase with improvements in computing power as we added/replaced old gear. It was fun.

Ill keep checking in.

Good to hear from you guys. Things do look bleak at the moment, but I plan on sticking around until the bitter end. Hopefully they can find some way to keep it going. Just to hedge my bets I am on Denis@home and TN-Grid. They seem worthwhile and although they don't always have a steady supply of units, they do keep a few of my machines doing something good.
Best wishes.
Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Well, at least for the time being the flow of work units seems to be stable. My machines are full. Preliminarily it appears the amount of work being done and returned by the grid is considerably down from the past. This may be by design or it may be that the actual number of machines reporting back has fallen. From a historical daily average of 994,000 the last 3 days are less than 200,000.
I would speculate the number of active participants is much lower than prior to the breakdown and may rebound after a bit. Some participants have either quit entirely or moved on to other projects and may only return after a sustained period of stability. I guess time will tell.
Cheers
