Back to more snow today. The forecast is calling for another 5 to 7 inches(12.7 to 17.8 cm). At least the wind has not come up yet. But the cold is coming. 32F(0C) now but will be about -10F(-23C) in a few days. When the wind does pickup I hope it does not rattle the wires too much or there will be more of those mini outages. Cheers - 10(f)! I've never experienced that. Here in the Seattle area we have a forecast in the teens which is very cold for us, and light snow. Light snow around here tends to be treated somewhat like light rain in San Diego, in other words, the apocalypse is coming. Although we're not expecting much in terms of snow today and this week, I'm still assembling my new snow plow attachment for my UTV in case our road needs clearing, we don't get plow service and even with light snow we tend to get a sheet of ice after a while which seems dangerous and impedes deliveries, trash pickup etc.

That ice under the snow is dangerous, sometimes you do not know it is there and all of a sudden down you go. At least it will warm up towards next weekend. But nothing but rain then. The snow we had here was very wet and the ground was warm. So, we got about an inch(2.5cm) of slush underneath everything which made it very heavy to shovel. Now it has gotten cold enough to freeze all that slush. At least I had taken care of it while it was still wet. Stay well and good luck with your snow. Hopefully it will be gone between the warmer temperatures and all the rain. Cheers

Since this is the first day of winter, good old Mother Nature decided we really should have a little winter. So we had -12F(-24C) this morning and it has started snowing again. We are scheduled to get 5 to 7 in. (12.7 to 17.8cm) of snow by the time it stops. At least it is dry snow, but it will start to blow around once the wind kicks up. Possibly having gusts up to 40mph(65kph) so we will have some drifting. The weather people on TV always seem to make it worse than it is. Right now it is no picnic driving around, but passable. If the wind gets as bad as they say, it would be better to stay put. It is feeling a bit more like January then December.
----------------------------------------The good news is it is scheduled to get above zero Fahrenheit (-18C) by Christmas day. Cheers

That's what's making it comprehensible when weather conditions are the topic of conversation. Thanks! EDIT: comprehensible [Edit 1 times, last edit by adriverhoef at Dec 22, 2022 6:22:41 AM] |

Happy holidays to all. I shut down my cruncher. Too much time running empty, wasting electricity. I’ll check back later to see if wu’s are flowing again.

Happy holidays to all. I shut down my cruncher. Too much time running empty, wasting electricity. I’ll check back later to see if work unit’s are flowing again. There has been no shortage of workunits here. The supply of MCM has been steady with an occasional OPN resend in the mix. If the supply runs out I will also shutdown for a while. Cheers

Happy New Year to you all! Hope everybody made it through all the varied weather OK the past couple of weeks. It got down to 9F (-13C) here in North Carolina which I know isn't at all cold by Minnesota standards, but still pretty cold for the area. I was thankful that some of my extended family from Minnesota was able to successfully fly out of MSP down here on the 23rd when it was -25F (-32C) windchill - amazing planes can still fly in that weather!
On the hardware front, I've been testing an Intel Core i7-12700T processor recently and will share an update shortly. Preview: it looks like an efficiency beast! |

Happy New Year ! I hope you did not have any frozen pipes at that temperature. I don't know anything about how the plumbing might be in North Carolina, but wonder how deep you bury the pipes. It was a cold December for most of it, but it moderated toward the end. We have been basking in the low 30's(F) (0C) for a little bit now, but generally January is the coldest month, so there will be some more cold weather coming along with some more snow. 25F(-4C) and sunny today. At least we are not getting the flooding they have on the West Coast. That I7-12700T is a beast. What OS are you using ? Cheers
