Re: Minnesota Crunchers

When you go back into the bios, does it show hyperthreading off? Had a similar issue. Has to clear my settings on my machine so settings were controlled on WCG. Use that to reduce your cores. Should fix it, then you can go back to controlling from your PC, if that's how you want to control boinc.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Thanks! I can't recall whether the HT off "stuck" in the BIOS (it was a while ago that I messed with it).

I'll experiment a little further when I feel better. I seem to be having my turn with flu.

By the way, my AMD machine that runs Windows finished all its Collatz WUs but still won't get GPUGrid ones. Also when I have the energy for doing extra things, I'll update the driver and see if that helps -- there's been a new Catalyst driver since the one that came pre-installed.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

So I do understand the difference between HT and core use -- just haven't been able to successfully disable HT in the BIOS.

I kind of figured you did, because you are a pretty sophisticated user, but I thought I would throw that in anyway. I agree with Bearcat, maybe the changes to the BIOS did not stick the last time you tried it. If the BIOS says hyperthreading is off and you still see 4 jobs, I am out of ideas.

I thought I read somewhere that ATI gpus did not work on GPU grid. Or am I mistaken ?

Cheers

That is correct. CUDA got the foot-hold way before OpenCL so NVidia supports far more grid projects.
In the future OpenCL should be the standard but I don't see it moving very fast.

I didn't even catch that. Sorry Kate, I'm on PrimeGrid, not GPUGrid. GPUgrid only supports nvidia.

Brink,
You're back. Where you been hiding out lately ? Prime grid ? Find any more giant primes ?

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Just to elaborate on kates issue and how I fixed my similar issue. I was messing around with my profiles and accidentally switched my 8 core harpertown profile to my 16 threaded westmere system. My next update and my harpertown was crunching 16 wu's. Found out, with some help from MM, the wu's were time sharing. 8 then 8 almost every second. Weird watching it but had to clear my preferences on the computer and fix it using the preferences from WCG. Once fixed, I went back using local preferences. Didn't think it was possible for this to happen.

Oh good; glad that's cleared up. I couldn't figure out how in the heck Bearcat was running GPUGrid on an ATI card, when the GPUGrid web site said it was Nvidia only. But GPUGrid is the GPU project I most want to run, so I figured if he had found a way, I wanted to get in on it! biggrin

Good to hear from Brink! It's been a while.

Yes sir, primegrid. Had to get my 321sieve badge to gold before it ended.
Here are all the primes I have found so far...
395*2^797849+1 240180 (decimal)
783*2^797237+1 239996 (decimal)
2973*2^662136+1 199327 (decimal)
1485*2^655977+1 197472 (decimal)
7425*2^655794+1 197418 (decimal)
5489*2^654331+1 196977 (decimal)
4917*2^651311+1 196068 (decimal)
7183*2^650518+1 195830 (decimal)
7595*2^650125+1 195712 (decimal)
9903*2^645282+1 194254 (decimal)
6225*2^643774+1 193800 (decimal)
8145*2^639654+1 192559 (decimal)
8115*2^617718+1 185956 (decimal)
All of them are Proth primes.
Now I'm back getting some more Clean Water units.

Going birding in Texas Monday - Friday next week. The peak bird migration usually is in full swing in the South Padre Islands every year at this time. Warblers, and others, from Costa Rica will fly the entire gulf and rest on the Islands here before heading to Canada. Can't wait! biggrin

Too long.

This guy has been waiting for a couple years for them to get an ATI app.
