I got 4 Beta Mam running, and they are running OK, and checkpointing OK too. They are progressing, but very very slow, so they will take much longer than ARP on this old i7-3630QM CPU, running om Windows 8.1. I have a copy of one of yours... also checkpointing nicelyThis is the ones in question, and how far they have progressed: BETA_BETA30_9800029_0371 Runtime: 20:23:31 Progress: 50,280% Time Left: 20:09:54 BETA_BETA30_9800029_0513 Runtime: 20:22:39 Progress: 45,570% Time Left: 01d:00:20:22 BETA_BETA30_9800029_0677 Runtime: 19:56:57 Progress: 43,720% Time Left: 01d:01:40:47 BETA_BETA30_9800029_0918 Runtime: 19:52:59 Progress: 46,110% Time Left: 23:14:17 Fun times, who´s in a hurry ![]() BETA_BETA30_9800029_0677_2 Runtime: 6:37 :00 Progress: 18.160%% Time Left: 1d05:52:22 The remaining time is way off on these units, jumps up and down.... maybe not enough data to guesstimate. Only hurry here is hoping it finishes by deadline ![]() PS i5-1035G1 running Windows 11 Well, that's nice! My BETA_BETA30_9800029_0677_0 task, will be finished in about 6 hours and 30 minutes. (If it survives to the end) Just passed 21% 7:28 elapsed; guessing ~40-50 hours total, have ~70 hours until deadline. We shall see! ."Our" WU https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/706400661 will be finished by me in about 35-40 minutes. Two of my other long running tasks have finished now, and are waiting for the wingmen to finish. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/706400355 https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/706400902 Edit. added: I forgot to say Do not restart your computer, or BOINC, while any BETA tasks are running. Even though they do seem to checkpoint OK, they do not survive a restart of the task. One of my earlier Beta tasks that checkpointed OK, errored out after a restart, and I have seen on this forum that others also have suffered from the same issue. Edit, added 2: I have now finished, and reported my copy of "our" WU: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/706400661 Edit, added 3: And the last of my 4 tasks, are finished and reported now: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/706400497 Have to say i stopped other tasks to let the beta get more percentage, 8 vcores letting only 3 run etc 89.850% 1d13:37.27 04:04 left I'm hoping it will finish ok ! ![]() https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/706400661 |

"ours" finished; mine took 40 hours.
----------------------------------------I got one on an old Windows 7 machine, 55.01 CPU time / 69.6 elapsed Even though it ran late, still got credit! https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/706400627 Inching ever closer to the 5 year beta badge (joke, since I'm getting around 10 days/day) 4:102:04:57:18 ![]() |

I'm quite new to WCG but signed up for beta testing as soon as I found the relevant settings page. I see there's a lot of discussion about MAM beta, implying that lots of people are getting tasks. I'm running WCG on 4 laptops more or less 24/7 and all they're getting are MCM + 1 lucky ARP on the single laptop that is allowed to get 5 at most.
----------------------------------------Is there anything else to do besides waiting and hoping for some beta tasks? ![]() ![]() |

@zdnko, what version and edition of Windows? All 3 of my Win10 Pro 22H2 got a "Computation Error" immediately. I have a ton of Debian Linux tasks running great. Most are at 0.500% for a long time, and some get past that first hump within 10 minutes.

Is there anything else to do besides waiting and hoping for some beta tasks? That sounds about right- they seem to be releasing the beta work in waves and right now not much of anything is going out. There will be more soon, we just don't know when or how many. I think most people who have selected to receive beta work saw some cross their systems. |

Since I'm pretty stubborn, I will run these two resend Beta tasks. Especially since they do seem possible to finish OK. They will take a long time though, om my old Laptop CPU.

Is there anything else to do besides waiting and hoping for some beta tasks? You'll of course have to adjust your settings to find what best fits your environment and sorry for the wall of text and lousy formatting :) lets assume this machine is WCG only, a 4 core laptop, always on/connected to reliable internet and there is always work for the listed projects. Device profile-> project limits ARP 1 MCM 3 Edit: can reduce MCM and increase ARP if you want to weigh more towards that project. save this and update your Boinc manager from WCG so work unit limits are enforced. (optional, I believe the Boinc Manager setting will override the cache settings from WCG) Device profile -> work unit cache settings cache X extra days of work whereX is enough to ensure your pc is always looking for work. Boinc Manager computing preferences (I have Boinc Manager 7.16.20) Options->Computing Preferences->Other Store at least x days of work and additional x days of work. set X large enough to ensure your pc is always looking for work (beta). My 8 core laptop settings allow for cores staying busy while having enough time buffer to grab a beta ARP 4 MCM 12 .5 days of work .5 days of additional work My usual non hunting settings are relatively low on purpose to return work quickly; If I didn't have always on/always connected to a better than 99% internet connection I'd probably extend them. ARP 4 MCM 42 .2 days of work .5 days of additional work ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by pramo at May 3, 2025 3:12:08 PM] |

ARP 4 MCM 42 .2 days of work .5 days of additional work I'm running ARP only on my new home laptop because I expect it to be the only one that can finish them reasonably fast (runtime of about a day or so). It has a Core 5 Ultra 125H with 14C/18T. After playing around with the ARP settings and waiting overnight, I finally got the 8 ARP that I set on the website, with the remaining 10 running tasks obviously being MCM. Currently my work buffer is set to 0.1+0.1 days and right now I have 7 MCM waiting (was 11 when I started writing this reply). I assumed that increasing the buffer would just make the client fill it with more MCM, not leaving space for potential Beta work. Setting an upper limit for MCM tasks should probably do the trick though, I'll being testing it right now with something like 8 ARP + 18 MCM. Note that WCG in theory is my secondary project after DENIS, a project that has been running in an extremely cyclic fashion in the past couple of weeks, since I joined. Right now there is no DENIS work so I can fine tune WCG, but when the next DENIS wave starts it will all go to hell, lol. Thanks for the the detailed explanation, better a wall of text than a 2-line reply that leaves me scratching my head! ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Lanius collurio at May 3, 2025 4:45:23 PM] |

yep, the trick is to lower the number of work units and raise the time limits to where the client is always trying to get something. then, just have to be lucky enough to have the client ask when there's a beta (or whatever you're hunting) in the queue!
----------------------------------------Cheers and good luck:) ![]() |
