My 5 linux computers have all picked up beta tasks. While some have completed successfully, many are also stuck at 0.5%. but are using 100% cpu and are writing to stderr.txt periodically. If I check the stderr.txt file in the appropriate slot directory I see this:
Commandline = ../../projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org/wcgrid_beta30_map_7.04_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu -SettingsFile BETA30_9800012_0950.txt -DatabaseFile dataset-curate |

One Beta on my Windows 8.1 computer.
----------------------------------------BETA_BETA30_9800009_0763 Running very slow, at least from the start. 1% in 15 minutes. It's not the fastest CPU though, an old i7-3630QM. It's crunching MCM tasks in around 2 hours and 20 minutes though. We'll see if this Beta task picks up speed, or if it will continue to crunch this slow. Now at 2.8% after 38 minutes. It's checkpointing as it should though. Well, who´s in a hurry? ![]() Edit, added: After 2 hours and 40 minutes, this Beta is up to 10.285%. It's ARP speed on this CPU The other two Beta tasks I got, was totally impossible, and got stuck. Those were sent into the bin. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Apr 25, 2025 4:00:58 PM] |

I'm seeing similar things on my Linux systems. I'm not going to abort anything yet, but I'll keep an eye on it. |

I've got 4 tasks running, and yes, they're SLOWLY progressing, but my BOINC mgr has estimated that it'll take between 16 and 28 days to finish them... The WU's in question, are; BETA_BETA30_9800010_0948_1 BETA_BETA30_9800010_0947_0 BETA_BETA30_9800010_0946_0 BETA_BETA30_9800010_0949_0 ![]() |

I'ts slower than ARP, for my MAM Beta. 4.5%, in 1 hour and 6 minutes. ![]() |

I'm noticing that units from Batch 9800018 and up seem to be working normally, while earlier batches are slow as snails. I've aborted all of the pre-9800018 units I had, whether they've started or not.
----------------------------------------And it looks like 9800026 is trouble as well. You can tell right away whether a work unit is going to be a problem - the good ones start counting up almost immediately, and the bad ones immediately stick at 0.5% or so. Not looking forward to babysitting this... [Edit 3 times, last edit by spRocket at Apr 25, 2025 2:39:34 PM] |

I have also seen that when it is stuck at 0.5%, they seem to be there to stay. After 4 hours of being stuck there on a system with a 14900KS, we aborted those tasks. They were still using 100% CPU but the jump to 0.5% was within a few initial seconds of start and then they stall.

One would think that the tech team would be more active/involved in a beta test. Almost seems worthwhile to abort them all for lack of interest. For something that was supposed to be based on MCM1, they sure are running very differently.

My next Beta task seems to work much better
----------------------------------------BETA_BETA30_9800022_0911 At least initially. 16.575% in 6 minutes. However, after 6 minutes, and 16.575% it seems to have gone on a vacation, and doesn't progress any more.Still using 100% CPU time though. Edit, added: After having been stuck at 16.575% for 30 minutes, I will abort this one. And then I got another Beta, BETA_BETA30_9800010_0910_3, not getting beyond 0.5%, and that one is being aborted too. I don't know about sending out doubtful Beta work on a Friday, but...... Apart from all that, the website is getting laggy and wonky too. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Apr 25, 2025 3:42:55 PM] |

I've got some beta units who seems to be stuck at 0.5 procent, even after 3+ hours of running
See https://imgur.com/yHpc4nK This can't be correct? |
