I got 4 Beta Mam running, and they are running OK, and checkpointing OK too. They are progressing, but very very slow, so they will take much longer than ARP on this old i7-3630QM CPU, running om Windows 8.1.

This is the ones in question, and how far they have progressed:

BETA_BETA30_9800029_0513 Runtime: 20:22:39 Progress: 45,570% Time Left: 01d:00:20:22
BETA_BETA30_9800029_0677 Runtime: 19:56:57 Progress: 43,720% Time Left: 01d:01:40:47
BETA_BETA30_9800029_0918 Runtime: 19:52:59 Progress: 46,110% Time Left: 23:14:17

Fun times, who´s in a hurry smile



I have a copy of one of yours... also checkpointing nicely

The remaining time is way off on these units, jumps up and down.... maybe not enough data to guesstimate. Only hurry here is hoping it finishes by deadline good luck

I'm not on here as much as i used to be but still - First time since day one that I've seen/been a live wing man :)
Just passed 21% 7:28 elapsed; guessing ~40-50 hours total, have ~70 hours until deadline. We shall see!

Edit. added: I forgot to say Do not restart your computer, or BOINC, while any BETA tasks are running. Even though they do seem to checkpoint OK, they do not survive a restart of the task. One of my earlier Beta tasks that checkpointed OK, errored out after a restart, and I have seen on this forum that others also have suffered from the same issue.

Got many Beta WU's with long runtime or faulty start.
All WU's with 0.5% progress have no aktual checkpoint.
i will stop these WU's now.
The extrem slow WU's will rise Deadline, if they don't speed up i'll stop this WU's also.

As we don't have an official "provide feedback on this Beta" thread[*1], various threads contain [multiple] posts about the long-running tasks and quite a few suggestions as to what to do with them...

WCG have already acknowledged the issues with the early Betas (such as 9800010, which still keeps getting a mention!) in the "Operational Status" update, posted after the 2025-04-26 system recovery. I mentioned it on the previous page :-) and will repost the key bit of that update:
We have updated the workunit records in the BOINC database on 2025-04-25 for all these workunits in this range of batches to hopefully prevent resends and Server Abort any BETA workunits that were awaiting a free slot to begin execution on BOINC clients. For those who continue to run these long running workunits, we will monitor those that remain outstanding and continue to extend deadlines.
I also remarked that if a user is concerned about long-running tasks it is probably worth checking the workunit status using the web site. If the wingman has aborted and no retry has been sent out, the other copy might as well be aborted as well (especially if it says "replication 0"...)

I tried to count the tasks to their final deadline, but there was a power outage... Surprisingly, after rebooting, some tasks showed non-zero elapsed time (more than one day) and the same 0.5%.

Had to drop 8 tasks beta 15.
