I got 4 Beta Mam running, and they are running OK, and checkpointing OK too. They are progressing, but very very slow, so they will take much longer than ARP on this old i7-3630QM CPU, running om Windows 8.1.
This is the ones in question, and how far they have progressed: BETA_BETA30_9800029_0371 Runtime: 20:23:31 Progress: 50,280% Time Left: 20:09:54 BETA_BETA30_9800029_0513 Runtime: 20:22:39 Progress: 45,570% Time Left: 01d:00:20:22 BETA_BETA30_9800029_0677 Runtime: 19:56:57 Progress: 43,720% Time Left: 01d:01:40:47 BETA_BETA30_9800029_0918 Runtime: 19:52:59 Progress: 46,110% Time Left: 23:14:17 Fun times, who´s in a hurry ![]() |

My computer is running 7 Beta MAM tasks and the remaining times listed is a little concerning. They're showing deadlines of 4/29/2025 but have remaining time estimates in excess of 40 days. I'm on an I9-11900K cpu running no more than 8 tasks at a time so they should be getting very near 24/7 utilization of one cpu core each.
----------------------------------------I'm happy to let them continue for now but they're using most of my computing resources on tasks that won't complete anywhere near the deadline so I'm hoping there are some tweaks coming for this project. ![]() |

The latest "Operational Status" update, posted after the 2025-04-26 system recovery, also had mention of what's been going on with the Beta tasks. Someone has already posted a full copy of that update into the Chat Room's current Project Status thread; this bit relates to early batches...
We have updated the workunit records in the BOINC database on 2025-04-25 for all these workunits in this range of batches to hopefully prevent resends and Server Abort any BETA workunits that were awaiting a free slot to begin execution on BOINC clients. For those who continue to run these long running workunits, we will monitor those that remain outstanding and continue to extend deadlines. If a user is concerned about long-running tasks it is probably worth checking the workunit status using the web site. If the wingman has aborted and no retry has been sent out, the other copy might as well be aborted as well (especially if it says "replication 0"...)Cheers - Al. |

I have 7 valid Beta work units on Windows. They all completed in about 20 minutes. I have 19 valid Beta work units on Linux. They all completed in 35 to 40 hours. I did abort a few on Linux which ran for about a day and never progressed beyond 5%.
----------------------------------------All of the Linux valid work units were from batch 9800009. Cheers

The whole batch completed on my Linux machine. One timed out on over 24 hours of CPU time.
----------------------------------------The Boinc Manager or the tasks themselves do a terribly bad job of calculating and displaying time to completion. At one point that job reported over three days to complete. ![]() |

Re replication 0 …, Al, In other cases it will probably just be too late to abort :-/ as your own BETA-task finished OK and your wingman's copy errored out (where it looks like they rebooted and the task didn't recover properly): (1) App: BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers (2) App: BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers Adri PS I see two of my tasks with no remaining copies to be sent out and Replication 0: App: BETA - Mapping Arthritis Markers [Edit 1 times, last edit by adriverhoef at Apr 27, 2025 11:19:40 AM] |

Their runtime will be around 43-45 hours at the end (Geeze) |

Yeah, I have had only failed Beta tasks this far. Most of them I did abort myself, when they didn't do anything for hours. Update:But I got one recently that completed successfully in just over 20 minutes. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/results/1311566459/log The "shortie" above has now validated, but strangely enough, the wingman is showed as "This account is currently not available." under both "OS Type", and "OS version". Maybe the wingman got P'ed off by the bad BETA tasks, and just deleted the account. BETA_BETA30_9800027_0534 [Edit 1 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Apr 27, 2025 2:42:26 PM] |

Nobody should be "pissed off" with problems with Beta tasks, since it is the purpose of beta testing to verify if everything is running well ... or not.
----------------------------------------In the particular case, we see that it shall become better. On my side, I've only aborted Beta MAM WUs not showing any progress after several hours. I keep running the others, even if they seem to need a lot of time (>24 hours) for being completed. It is finally the exciting part of Science to make experiments and to discover unexpected behaviours. Cheers, Yves |
