Re: FC Language United

Furniture installment
- and some more
I would say that SylviaGirly makes the pronunciation of ’oorlog’ more difficult than it need be compared to ceespientje and jaan saying the same word. It is funny that these ’maritime’ words are so close to each other. Could it be because both of our countries traditionally are seafaring nations?
’Veroorloven’ is very different from Danish. We would say: ’at have råd til’. Not easy.

Not long ago, you mentioned somthing you read about Denmark and Danes, and it said among other things I think that ’all Danes have Arne Jacobsen’ furniture in their homes. Or was it those of some other designer/architect? Never mind, designer furniture it was. Editing my Netherlands photos I come across some from my sniffing around in the Kunstlinie Almere Flevoland
theatre in Almere where I much to my surprise found these – actually these very two models of Arne Jacobsen chairs:

and in this picture from an Almere website you see another model – a dining chair:

And I wondered then and still do:
Why?
Why go abroad when you are pretty capable yourselves?
Perhaps the architects of the theatre have specified this; they are Japanese. Perhaps they have this love for Danish lifestyle which resulted in the baker from Hiroshima donating a cherry blossom tree avenue near me.

Re: FC Language United

This song is about what we do everyday: to (not) get out of bed.
https://youtu.be/UPYMBoa8RDE

Het is weer tijd om op te staan
It is time to get up again
Maar ik heb geen zin
But I do not feel like it
(Hij heeft geen zin)
(He does not feel like it)
Om naar m'n baas te gaan
To go to my boss

Met m'n blote voeten op het kouwe zeil
With my bare feet on the cold sail
(Met z'n grote blote voeten op het kouwe zeil)
(With his big bare feet on the cold sail)
Ik heb geen zin om op te staan
I do not like to get up
Ik heb geen zin om op te staan
I do not like to get up

Was jij maar hier, was jij maar hier
If only you were here, if only you were here
Want het is zo fijn
Because it is so nice
(Het is zo fijn)
(It is so nice)
Om hier met jou te zijn
To be here with you

Met m'n voeten tegen je pyjama aan
With my feet against your pyjamas
(Met z'n grote voeten tegen je pyjama aan)
(With his big feet against your pyjamas)
Ik heb geen zin om op te staan
I do not like to get up
Ik heb geen zin om op te staan
I do not like to get up

Ik blijf in bed, de hele dag
I'll stay in bed, the whole day
Want ik heb geen zin
Because I do not feel like it
(Hij heeft geen zin)
(He doesn't feel like it)
Om d'r nou nog uit te gaan
To go out of it now

Met m'n blote handen naar m'n baas te gaan
To go to my boss with my bare hands
(Met z'n grote blote handen naar z'n baas te gaan)
(To go to his boss with his big bare hands)
Ik heb geen zin om op te staan
I do not like to get up

(To get up or to stay in bed … I don't know, I'm lost)

Re: FC Language United

Morning installment
- to be sung, to be learned
Thank you for your song, adriverhoef. Now I have one more lesson – lesson #4 - in addition to ’Zachtjes tikt den regen’, ’Kilometervreter’, and ’Kom uit de bedstee m'n liefste’.
Maybe if I got up earlier in the morning – or rather: maybe if I could wake up when I get up more or less in the middle of the night – I could do something about it. I’m still on ’Zachtjes’. I played it now, and it’s familiar like an old friend, but I have a bit to go still before moving on to the others.

Today I returned Paul Verhoeven's ’Zwartboek’. I noticed the young Jewess in mockery made a croos in her morning oatmeal after her host had told her that if only the Jews had resigned on their belief, they wouldn’t have been in trouble. She made that cross with stoepje.

Being occupied with Hungarian these days doesn’t improve on my Dutch. It is a treat for myself reliving much of what I did in Budapest. I wish I did it for real again. I started planning a Budapest 2.0 from an e-book a good while ago. That's on hold. I would like to do a Netherlands 2.0, too, as I edit my 1.0 pictures and diary. That one would probably be a Rotterdam trip by train. I understand Rotterdam is a hub of modern architecture. When I went through that area this time – so may roads and so much traffic this time, I never saw anyting like it. What a lot of lanes!
When I did it probably around 1974 the traffic was heavy as well and I believe it was rush hour to top it off, I think I was inventive. GPS wasn’t in the horizon, but binoculars were, and as the human navigator I used them to find out well in advance where we should position ourselves. It worked and was a help.

You have probably noticed that I carry on with your Grand Hotel idea during Base Camp's Hungary trek, Speurneus. I liked it and it makes a fine anchor for the entire show. Hope it's OK.

How are your 400 OCR pages and more to come + the 100 that came after and the even more in the horizon coming along?

And how do you like mornings?

Re: FC Language United

Just answering the OCR-progress-process. wink
There are now 600 OCR pages (with more to come) and I've processed 21%.
And how do you like mornings?
I'd say most of the time they are great for sleep, for waking up at the end of them without anything waking you up (except a full bladder) and then to say "Goeiemorgen" when the sun has heated the room. cool

Re: FC Language United

OCR installment
- and more to come; daylight too
Oh, no, you will never see the end if it continues this way even as you work hard.
21% of the total?
4 times as much left
– unless there is even more to come.
And how about what you normally do? Do you put that aside?
Did you get 'our' - is it still ours? - new frontdeskcomputer?

Your mornings sound good!
Sun heating the room?
You must sleep in. wink
Even in the Netherlands the mornings must be dark this time of year. In my directly-north-facing-bedroom, I have a bit of sun mornings and evenings at midsummer but never anything that would heat the room. I'm very satisfied with that orientation of the room which ensures consistent cool sleeping temperatures most of the year.

We already gained one hour of daylight in Denmark by Monday January 22, and every day we add another 3½ minutes, most of it in the afternoon. The meteorlogists have all the right explanations for that which I could study, but I’m too lazy or tired or too insterested in other things. Electricity and astronomy never got me hooked.

I don't feel the need to understand it; I’ll just take the extra light with delight.

My view from Rigshospitalet (das Reichshospital!). The very white chimney to the right in the horizon is a new waste incenerator designed by our Wunderkind architect Bjarke Ingels who is also in charge of World Trade II - the last remaining building to be erected in the WTC area of NYC. The incinerator is a little funny. If ever we get snow, it's a ski slope. The chimney will emit a smoke ring for every ??? tons of waste burnt.

Yes, more to come, the amount will probably almost be doubled. What I normally do is to continue making an inventory of my vinyl singles collection.
Did you get 'our' - is it still ours? - new frontdeskcomputer?
Today (Friday) was a lucky day, the new frontdeskcomputer finally arrived! I'm still thinking about the Linux distribution to install on it, probably Fedora 27.

Sun is rising at half past eight here. Last Wednesday was the warmest 24th January ever in the Netherlands: 14,4°C. 🌴

Re: FC Language United

Your sun is rising earlier, your temperature is hotter, but in all modesty we made a January all time high also.

Your work is so neat.
Do you own all that vinyl?
If so, you probably don't want to move.
Ever. tongue

Yes, I think you should chose Fedora 27
- take it from one who absolutely doesn't know s**t about it, but thinks the name is very nice.
Russian empress, beautiful man's hat

- oh well, I thought the brim was wider sad
You could try Linux Borsalino biggrin

Hahaha, yes, that would involve moving a lot of boxes.
Well, you know what they say: Your last coat hasn't got any pockets. But it's nice to look at all those pieces of art.

It's funny that you mention Linux Borsalino, 'cause in France they have Borsalinux: "Borsalinux-fr est une association française de loi 1901 constituée de bénévoles et dédiée à la promotion de la distribution Fedora et des logiciels libres dans tous les pays francophones."

The old frontdeskcomputer hasn't been replaced yet, however. We have to check the CPU cooling unit of the new one first before we move it into place. It failed the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool Test. shock

This would be the text book example of 'the blind hen finding a grain made out of gold', Adri. laughing

Clever procedure! Never throw out the old one until the new one has shown it's value. No matter what it is.
Well, almost tongue
As for computers:
Would you believe it: I was to have a replacement computer for one that died some years ago. Got an HP laptop with a faulty motherboard. The dealer wouldn't believe me.
Women and computers d oh
Wrote to the top boss and got my money back. Went to another place that custom built one. What happened? One more faulty motherboard. Now I was almost an expert at diagnosing ... and they believed me.
What are the chances of having two consequtive faulty motherboards? Less than winning a big prize in a lottery, I would think.

Best of luck with our new frontdeskcomputer
- or its pronto replacement rose

Re: FC Language United

(The continuing story of the frontdeskcomputer ...)

Did the new one get too hot?
In other words, should we shout out "Fa-fa-fa-fire" confused
Well, good news after all. It was only the heat of the moment. The new computer had its BIOS updated and now it shows triumphant that there are no heat problems whatsoever. good luck
