For those who are in a 'panic' mode, here's some facts based on projects that have so far completed on WCG. [snip] Therefore, if the 50% figure on the Research page is correct, SCC would still be the shortest project ever run on WCG by a fair margin. I hoping that your "facts" were going to show that us panic stricken crunchers are wrong GeeBee. Cheers ![]() ![]() |

IMHO since the WCG team have tried to keep the value of a point approximately the same over time, and since the other metrics are so variable (one Vina WU is not the same as a clean energy WU), 'Points Generated' should be our barometer.
Also, we're comparing current points generated to the final point value of each project. Since we've just hit the 50% mark, may I suggest a very simple correction? Double the values and compare again. SCC will be much closer to the mode. |

You're still debating this, after scientists are testing BETAs?!

You're still debating this, after scientists are testing BETAs?! Very good point KLiK. You are so right. It would not be worth anyone's time to fix a problem with the Android app if there were only a month left. However, the scc1 API gives a completion date a mere 5 weeks away ("estCompletionDate":"2017-04-18T00:00:00") unless somebody refills the master hopper of data (or whatever they need to do). Maybe it is a source of entertainment in Texas to tease us crunchers and watch the panic. It surely would be a great way to get many to crunch harder than usual on a particular project (like me). ![]() Speaking of teasing, look how many weeks it took after the announcement of having a project update on HSTB to actually posting it. Surely more is known than we are being told. Such non-transparency is a known fault of WCG. It speaks volumes about what they think of us mere crunchers. Cheers ![]() ![]() |

@ Dayle Diamond
----------------------------------------Double the values and compare again. SCC will be much closer to the mode. The point of providing those stats at the "supposedly 50% mark", was so that the figures could easily be doubled. The point I was attempting to emphasise, was that, even if, after 42 days worth of crunching, the halfway mark HAS been reached (which, I very much doubt), that'd produce a project length of ~84 days - way, way, way shorter than the shortest project currently finished so far on WCG.Also, I do recall a comment many moons ago from the WCG techs, that it's not really worth their while in on-boarding a project that'll run for less than 6 months (which has proven to be the case - with only IADS running for less - 172 days). Thus, with the recent Beta testing for Android, this also backs up this idea that there's a lot more work to come. ![]() |

To play devil's advocate, points are based upon flops. SCC is 12th out of 29th so far, so it certainly wouldn't set any new records for least amount of computing necessary even if it finished today. Also, "6 months of computing time" 10 years ago would be different than the computing power available today. Is WCG scaling up their potential project size for this?
(Note: None of these are serious challenges to thoughts posted in this thread. They are just musings while the progress bars fill and the WUs send/receive. Crunch on!) |

Well this week I got my Silver Badge, but if this project will finish in April 2017, there is no way I could crunch enough on my laptop to get to Gold by any time next month, so for now I've stopped on this project and will wait until they either finish next month, or add a bunch more work and push that end date well into the future. One way or another this should resolve itself in the next 45 days give or take ....

Of course I'm here for science as a main priority but I'm a badge hunter too. For me it is an additional motivation (like in role playing games). The initial idea of boinc is to spend spare cpu time. The badges made me rent additional ressources, buy additional ressources and run everything I have 24/7 instead. Result: Good for science. Good for economie (IT industry, power supply company). Good for my badges. Bad for my wallet. Yep, I'm with you! ![]() ![]() |

On the subject of SCC completion date, when they say April 2017 is that the beginning or end of the month? I am almost to emerald and wondered if I should dedicate all my machines to try to get to Sapphire ![]() ![]() |
