DC, I understand your frustration and anger, especially after all the work you have put into it, it is sad for everyone that your stats will not be available. Most people have aliases anyway so the data does not identify a person by name. Come to think of it, the stats data is meaningless to anyone outside of WCG, Why does this have to be made private? What possible harm can come from someone knowing how many units I've done yesterday!
----------------------------------------Something to think about, Why not keep your stats going for people who opt in, yes it is not showing everyones work and it will mainly show the active members. Not perfect or complete, certainly a small subset of the whole but it is better than nothing. That is all I can think off at the moment. ![]() |

Most people have aliases anyway so the data does not identify a person by name. Come to think of it, the stats data is meaningless to anyone outside of WCG, Why does this have to be made private? What possible harm can come from someone knowing how many units I've done yesterday! Article 4 of the GDPR says: ‘personal data’ means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (‘data subject’); an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person; So we (and WCG/IBM) are stuck with it. Personally I think these regulations are long overdue. I'm sure we will find ways to persuade the majority of contributors to share their data. After all, they are sharing their computing resources for the benefit of humanity, and sharing their data encourages gentle competition and therefore generally increases the resources available. But we must still respect people's rights! |

The solution is simple, I think. Have an "opt in" system, and those that don't opt in are denied write access to the forums and are allocated an anonymous non-attributable user ID which appears in the stats and nowhere else. That would then allow accurate stats and meaningful reporting for those that care.

If accounts are deleted or someone changes team their contribution stays with the team.

Good morning all.
----------------------------------------It would be a great pity and I believe ultimately damaging for WCG if stats are not freely available and accurate. The competitive element between crunchers and between teams (or even between countries) should not be underestimated. Do your best for us Dave your work is very much appreciated by all of us hard core forum members.

Nothing like planning ahead...

Hi Dave,
Yes, I find it amazing that TWO YEARS' notice wasn't sufficient to get this right and ready on time. I think a lot of people were under the mistaken impression that it was so grandiose a plan that it probably wouldn't happen, so sand became a perfect head-burying medium. |

There is Data (that should be private) and then there is data which is useless and without context.
----------------------------------------I would not like my email address to be made public, but my WCG stats anyone can have, whatever good it may do them. I've never looked at any other team forum but I bet there are a lot of stat systems and all will be broken with the changes. WCG should have been a bit quicker with the ball on this one. It will not stop me or anyone who cares about the work being done from contributing though. It will just take a bit of time and DC a bit more work for things to be more or less be ok again. ![]() |

The thing is Steven, some members use their real names as user id, (me for example), and by monitoring output you could deduce when they were on holiday. I'm sure there are easier ways to do it though.
