Re: Good morning everyone

Woo Hoo number 2, mac2 8 core +8 thread is now crunching WCG as fast as it can, mac3 is running but I can't find my spare ethernet cables, they are in the roof space somewhere, unless the wife threw them out. Having trouble getting mac4 running can't seem to get monitor output. Any idea's Andy?
I'm using the same cable on all of the boards so I know it is ok.
It seems to be booting fine, at least the lights progress like the others, I just can't get the video to work.

It has gotten cloudly now so I'll just keep mac1 and mac2 running overnight. If it is nice and sunny tomorrow I will go buy a couple of ethernet cables and keep trying with mac4.
It would be nice to have more memory as the boards are very slow responding to other programs while running WCG, I will look into it.

Morning all, gorgeous day down here, the numerous fake tan salons will be suffering.
Glad you're having some success, the video did work on all of the nodes, not sure what's happening with that one, after I'd configured a drive I'd tend to manage them over the network so didn't use the VGA too much. If it's stubbornly refusing to work then maybe set node 4 up on node 3 maybe?

Damn I've got loads of cables, drives my wife potty too, I should have packed a few.

If you stuck to the USB sticks you'll probably find the servers are disk bound rather than memory bound, even the fast one's aren't that great for OS hosting and also these will be operating as USB 2.0, fine for CPU hungry tasks like WCG though. Memory wise the machine I'm on now has 28threads and I can see it's only using 3gb for WCG (OET/ZIK/SCC) some of the other projects use a lot more though so maybe it is.
Did you ever find out what that red and black cable did, I didn't have a clue, some kind of rack lock detection maybe but hard to see from the picture?

As an aside I noticed on DC's stats page that OET is being generous at the moment, something I'm seeing in my stats too, it's giving 30-40% more than the others I mentioned for the same run time - on Linux anyway.

Remember those stats are just averages. If every cruncher ran a mix of all the projects they would be statistically valid, but as it stands you only need someone with a lot of powerful machines (or conversely, weedy ones) to focus on one particular project to skew the results. However, I reckoned with ~100 team members it would probably even itself out, but don't count on it as gospel smile

Re: Good morning everyone

I think prodigyboy had something to do with it as well :)

Don't know if you can see my devices on my contribution page, I have also added my old HTC10 phone which is running quite hot and my new 8 core Hauwei P20 which is running very cool despite crunching on all cores.

My sister has a few spare cables so hope to get mac3 running after lunch, still stuggling with mac4, I will try your suggestion Andy, once I start trying again.

Re: Good morning everyone

Good Morning All.
I hope you are having a great weekend. All this talk of multiple cores and mac'n' servers is making me jealous. However I don't need the heating here but would be fascinated if someone could invent an inverse thermal generator (refrigerator that generates electricity) however I believe that the fundamental laws of Physics are aginst it (unless of course it's quantum.
I'm doing my bit for the environment here by fitting solar flood lighting. I have just installed a 100 W LED solar powered flood light (remote controlled) over my fruit garden so that I don't bump into my trees at night when trying to round up cats for bedtime.

Re: Good morning everyone

Yep. Paul_D generated 520,000 points yesterday, which I reckon is 3.5 million points per week... which will rank him number 2 in the team (sorry Andy!!!). We'll find out for sure when he's been back in the team for a week (on the 12th or 13th).
