Possible tip to add in FAQ for the sluggish section....
----------------------------------------if you want to stop using the gpu while running an application add the following in cc_config <exclusive_gpu_app>mpc-hc64.exe</exclusive_gpu_app> and add Fred's BOINC TThrottle also Thank you for your effort WCG, I will start burning tomorrow some low level E-350 APU cards :) ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by cristipurdel at Oct 11, 2012 8:40:06 PM] |

Back to an earlier question in this thread. Has anyone successfully used an app_info.xml to run more than one HCC GPU task at a time? Yup, on my GTX560Ti 448 setting the thing to run 2 units at the same time will slowly converge to the situation you describe after around 3-4 units and then stays there. It alternates each unit between CPU and GPU so that both are always fully utilized. It essentially doubles the crunching speed - pretty awesome - but runs hotter. The following is provided as-is, no guarantees that it will not make your GPU explode, burn your cat, kill your wife etc.: HCC GPU-only x2 appinfo: http://pastebin.com/DJ0kijf3 (You need to manually fetch the files) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 11, 2012 9:03:01 PM] |

And a little note to add to that is that it is actually better for the hardware to run at constant temperature rather than go from 100% to 0% every 1.5 mins...

Good old Gene Wilder's Spaceball springs to mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygE01sOhzz0 "... chickin'?". You give some [good] reasons why WCG wont entertain telling members how to cook and fry their hardware.

In 1969 I took an oath to defend and protect the U S Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and Domestic. There was no expiration date.

GPU crunching effect in results, last column: 10/11/2012 19:289:20:21:01 48,339,998 209,888 Thursday morning. 10/10/2012 38:236:09:38:35 54,282,490 227,808 Wednesday 10/09/2012 39:041:15:19:44 52,148,741 225,143 Tuesday Smells like a doubling for the day, and this is only the beginning of the spreading word :D Most times the things we do with PC's are evolutionary in their effects, this is revolutionary and I don't think the majority of users have grasped that yet. Another factor is GPU computing now makes "old" systems viable again. I have 6 'Sammy" machines sitting in a box.. 2006 technology but low elec use and they do each have a PCI-E X8 slot..I am dying to see how they will do on GPU computing.. Oh, did I mention I picked up the 6 systems(boards, memory, cpu's and HS) for a total of $100.00? Bottom line is for the first time in a long time I am as excited as a teenager over this change.. Thanks WCG! |

Hopefully I start getting some of these soon. Not sure if my comp has been looking for them, as I often get 40 or so hour projects on my GeForce GT 440 OEM for GPU grid.
