So i think on the last remaining time sheet hcc had 722 days or so. I think when we have enough gpus running we can do that in under 6 months!! Gogogogog :)

On a system with an 'nVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti' the logfile reports 'No usable GPUs found'; this card is not in the list of unsupported GPUs, however. Is this a mistake in the list of excluded cards, or is there a reason this GPU is excluded? There is no further information in my local log beyond this line. The GTX 550 Ti supports Compute Capability 2.1, so near as I can tell, this should be usable for the HCC project. Edit: after further digging, I discovered that the GPU abilities can't be used when running in service mode. It would have saved a lot of hassle to have this message printed in the log along with the note about not finding usable GPUs, but I suppose this is a BOINC issue, not HCC's fault. The downside for this system is that I have to decide which will produce more work units: leaving it as a service on a multi-core system, or processing tasks only when someone is logged in and using the GPU after a few minutes idle. If someone has another option, I'm all ears. When you install Boinc in NON Service Mode, ie regularly, one of things it will ask is if it should run for all users or just the one logged in during the install, choose all and it should run under everyone's account. Even though I am the only one using my pc's that is what I ALWAYS choose. |

Even though I am the only one using my pc's that is what I ALWAYS choose. Thanks for the reply, but it doesn't work the way you describe (edit: even when using run for all users, that is.) Without service mode, it won't run when the computer is started before people log in, and it stops running when you log out. I've tested it, and checked how it's configured to run when installed this way, and it simply doesn't work. This is a standard Windows limitation, and was the reason services were designed. I've tested this, and it won't run before login or after logout (specifically, the boincmgr.exe program is started from the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windnows\CurrentVersion\Run registry key, aka the "all users" run registry entry.) It's just unfortunate that I can't give the service account direct access to the GPU hardware. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 11, 2012 1:21:11 PM] |

RE: Memory usage I don't think there is any difference between 1 GB of memory and 2 GB at all. The memory usage for HCC on my Radeon HD 7770 is less than 30 MB. And I have run 2, and even 3 work units of POEM at a time on that card with no memory problems. The other limitations (CPU usage especially) will limit you first. YES that IS the advantage of having multi GB of memory on your gpu, the ability to run several workunits on one time! I have 1GB cards and still run two units at once on MilkyWay. Doing so REQUIRES some tweaking and can SERIOUSLY overheat your gpu, so you MUST make sure to keep a close eye on it! Running multiple workunits at once is NOT always a good thing though, sometimes the gpu needs to share resources and in those Projects running multiple workunits at the same time is not helpful. Most people just try it and see if it helps or not. Here at WCG though since we currently CANNOT chose between running cpu or gpu units, it may not be helpful. You can run cpu only units but currently there are no options to run gpu only units. |

It's been explained how to get there [HCC on GPU only, other WCG CPU sciences only on CPU]. Several have repeated how to do it, such a rilian, and others have responded that it works for them... Choose e.g. FAAH+SN2S and CPU-Yes+GPU-Yes [do not select HCC. The feeder priority [speculation] seems to work so that the CPU gets fed with FAAH+SN2S and the GPU has little option, it fetches HCC. Those that select only HCC and CPU-Yes+GPU-Yes are likely to get both [if their hardware meets the requirements].
Just highlighting in case the workaround was missed. |

If my computer can process work on my graphics card, then please send me work to run on my graphics card for the projects that I have selected above. Looking at this, it states you have to select a project. Will uncheck HCC to see what happens. Woke up this morning with no HHC GPU wu's after unticking last night. No biggy as I will crunch both. Hope the techs do create a separate setting for the next GPU project.

Question I tried to answer: Can a device profile be saved without any CPU project selected? No, you can not, else you get:
At least one project must be selected Device Profile Name: work Not choosing HCC, but another *active* WCG science to feed the CPU slots, does seem to work [is my interpretation from posts made]. If that though works consistently, choosing DDDT2 as CPU project would have let GPU work go through for HCC. Bearcat seems to say it does not [not enough detail to fully understand]. |

Sek, am crunching HFCC. I added HCC so I could get the GPU wu's and see both non GPU and GPU wu's get downloaded. After reading the posts to not select HCC but insure selecting the option to use GPU if available, which I do have ticked, I deselected it last night before hitting the hay. Woke up this morning and only have HFCC crunching. Kneed responded to me last night stating there is no separate option for HCC GPU but they are looking into this for the next project.

Damn, I thought mine will work, because I don't have a "50" in it. And I did everything on the page. Unfortunately a GPU list with GPUs which would work would really help an amateur like me. :/ But thanks for your advice Sekerob! I'll look around for a 50 Euro GPU and hope I could crunch something. (: Look for a ATI 5670, relatively cheap. Mine is crunching well and is pretty close to run times of my ATI 6950.
