Sorry Faun, but think the ATI 4300/4500 is on the "No can't do" FAQ list: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=GPU . Of course you'd have to enable GPU crunching, also covered in the linked FAQs, to confirm.

Damn, I thought mine will work, because I don't have a "50" in it. And I did everything on the page.
----------------------------------------Unfortunately a GPU list with GPUs which would work would really help an amateur like me. :/ But thanks for your advice Sekerob! I'll look around for a 50 Euro GPU and hope I could crunch something. (: [Edit 1 times, last edit by Faun at Oct 11, 2012 10:13:19 AM] |

That was the anticipated way it would work, without the techs really needing to modify the device profile, i.e. only run CPU tasks for CPU only projects and GPU for those sciences that have both. This "workaround" will be okay till at least the next GPU project launches. It would not be the same as we need. How to set for standard projects CPU XOR GPU crunching AND for betas (and for intermittents) both CPU AND GPU crunching? App_info way is difficult and is usable for standard projects only, disables beta tasks crunching. By my point of view it is necessary to add two or three checkboxes (CPU, GPU nV, GPU ATI) for all projets as the PrimeGrid did.[Edit 1 times, last edit by nenym at Oct 11, 2012 11:02:11 AM] |

What difference would a 2gb GC have over a 1gb GC with regards GPU Crunching? (EG: 2gb HD6670 vs 1gb HD6670). (edited for typo's )It means when the app_info files start coming out you can run TWO gpu units at once instead of just one at a time! It also means that if you only run one gpu unit at a time your gpu runs cooler than those of us with only 1gb on our cards. ![]() ![]() |

is there good benchmark tool that represents well for crunching HCC, i would like to know what card is best crunch/price, also how much overclocking will affect to crunch power

(: An AMD 5770 is taking under 10 minutes to run one unit, they also are not new so you might be able to find one. Make sure you get one with 1gb memory on it. ![]() ![]() |

My initial findings indicates that there are some performance bottlenecks and tuning to iron out. On my ATI 7970 each work unit takes 1 minute and 40 seconds to complete. The first 20 seconds uses no GPU processing then there is 40 seconds of GPU activity at about 68% utilisation then the GPU goes idle for the remaining 40 seconds. So 1 minute uses no GPU and then I am only using 68% for about 40 seconds. Still much better than CPU performance but maybe larger work units and some optimisation would really help. I am seeing the same thing with my 7970. Also worth noting that at the very start of the task and during the "GPU phase" CPU usage is not at 100%. ![]() |

got a huge line of error units on my 6370, though i haven't found it in a blacklist

On a system with an 'nVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti' the logfile reports 'No usable GPUs found'; this card is not in the list of unsupported GPUs, however.
----------------------------------------Is this a mistake in the list of excluded cards, or is there a reason this GPU is excluded? There is no further information in my local log beyond this line. The GTX 550 Ti supports Compute Capability 2.1, so near as I can tell, this should be usable for the HCC project. Edit: after further digging, I discovered that the GPU abilities can't be used when running in service mode. It would have saved a lot of hassle to have this message printed in the log along with the note about not finding usable GPUs, but I suppose this is a BOINC issue, not HCC's fault. The downside for this system is that I have to decide which will produce more work units: leaving it as a service on a multi-core system, or processing tasks only when someone is logged in and using the GPU after a few minutes idle. If someone has another option, I'm all ears. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 11, 2012 12:58:59 PM] |

RE: Memory usage
I don't think there is any difference between 1 GB of memory and 2 GB at all. The memory usage for HCC on my Radeon HD 7770 is less than 30 MB. And I have run 2, and even 3 work units of POEM at a time on that card with no memory problems. The other limitations (CPU usage especially) will limit you first. |
