Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 46smilesmile

...Looking at the posts here about a new cruncher, I have to agree with them all. Someone pointed out that you can get a kit. That is true, but like most everything else, you get what you pay for. Those kits that cost $400 -500 get you a Quad but one that uses more power and is slower than some of the faster ones. Both Judson and I just built machines and you could use one of our parts list to build one

Sure, when you pick each part, you can get a machine specific to your needs/wants but a kit can be a good way for a "newbie" to get some experience and confidence. I wouldn't want to start out learning to be a mechanic by rebuilding an engine. Learning to put parts together is probably easier for most that learning how to configure them.

Dubby....??? Where are you... (I bet he is in La visiting his sister)

He did say he was going to take a vacation now that he was back from Maine. Looks like most of his machines are off now too so I'd bet on this.

Sorry my points are down but several of my machines have over a 100 hours of partially run WU's! Guess they need high priority WU's which must change often to run first. As far as building a machine Keithhenry may be right as once you build one and understand how they are put toghether I doubt you will buy another prebuilt one unless in a rush. A kit is an easy way to start. As far as help I and the much more expeirenced RT are here to help requardless.I assumed on RT's part.

Just saw Marysdubby's numbers drop so was concerned he was ok, glad to know it is nothing serious and for a good cause. Mothers are important!

Sorry my points are down but several of my machines have over a 100 hours of partially run WU's! Guess they need high priority WU's which must change often to run first. Judson, are you running BOINC 6.10.58? I've noticed that it seems to act a little strange at times like this. It quits crunching on a WU and switches to another WU at high priority. Now that's something it should do in a lot of cases like the WU it switches to is due sooner than the earlier one and is at risk of missing its deadline. However, I've see BOINC switch to a WU on the SAME project with a LATER due date and about the same Time to Completion estimate. That seems just the opposite of what I'd expect. I've considered switching back to 6.6.38 over this but the 6.10 level is from July so I sorta expect the 6.12 test level to go production soon. As for a workaround, go into Advanced-Preferences on the machine involved and bump the value for "Switch between applications every X minutes" high enough that it switches back to the WUs with the earliest deadlines at high priority. Let in run for a day or two like that and then clear the preferences to get back to your profile settings. This is something I see erratically, no pattern.

EDIT: Also, are most of your partial WUs CEP2s? On my machines, those seem to typically take around nine hours to complete. However, a noticable but small portion of the time, a WU that is a ways from completing (the latest one was at 45ish percent complete with another five-ish estimated hours to go) suddenly is done. I wonder if this sort of thing could be throwing off BOINC's scheduling algorithmn?

Sure, no problem, as I said, I would even put it together and drive it as far as dallas. As most of you know, when you install one of the high-powered coolers, you don't want to bounce it around..should be transported on its side. I will help any way I can. But, should you want to just buy a prebuilt, there are several of us here that can pick one out for you, given a budget. smile smile Have a great evening.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 46smilesmile

Keithhenry,
Concerning a CEP-2 WU that suddenly finishes is something I thought happened as at one point all WU's in progress were about 5 hours till due then about a hour later 3 were finished! yes am using.58 BOINC so may be issue. I may revert to ealier software but may see if corrects itself. Was mainly curious as seemed rather strange and wonderered if there was a logical reason, guess not! Thank you for your help.
