Try following: Go to the profile and change something operation changing such as the Use No More than xx % of CPU time. Save and update in client. The message log should show the effective profile with a new time stamp. Thanks for the replies Tried this, it stuck but still no more work. Have noticed That changing from standard setting to custom profile(home) will not stick, on update always goes back to standard settings. only have 5 tasks running now 3 nearing completion as this appears resolved for most will try a reset if this fails maybe a complete reattach? I have not, and never have used the unsupported method of custom profiles.
----------------------------------------I do have work and I am getting more (I was not in BETA hoover mode) but want to help confirm that the issue is or is not resolved. I changed the project weight inside a profile and it was save on the website. If I reopen that profile my changes appear. When I update from BOINC Manager there is no message of a profile change and the project weight does not get changed. If you make a change like this and it works, please try to change it a second time. I have also tried changing cache but that doesn't take either so I'm pretty sure that changes to the profiles, as presented by WCG, are not being recognized. I went to My Projects here on the web site and made sure every box was checked. Went into all of the profiles and confirmed that all boxes for all the projects are checked. I then went into my local Preferences from BOINC Manager and bumped my cache until I started receiving new WUs . I am only receiving WUs from the one project I had previously selected for the profile that machine is associated with. I tried changing the profile the machine is associated with but that does not appear to be working either. My guess is that there is a cache table with profile info that is not being flushed in a timely manner or the last edit time for our profile changes are not being saved. Is there a chance that this issue gets solved over the weekend?
Is there a tech emergency response team? Does this issue have the priority that techs look into it at the weekend? Or do we have to wait until Monday? |

wplachy, AFAIC the thread can be marked [RESOLVED] as nelsoc did to the Known Issues post. cheers Sekerob, Changed only the "work" profile at 08:56 AM increasing the cache. Saved and verified the change. Then in BOINC Manager Clicked "Update": 2/13/2010 8:57:45 AM|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks 2/13/2010 8:57:50 AM|World Community Grid|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks Then Selected Advanced->Preferences->Clear in BOINC Manager: 2/13/2010 8:58:17 AM||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 11-Feb-2010 22:44:13) 2/13/2010 8:58:17 AM||Computer location: work 2/13/2010 8:58:17 AM||General prefs: using separate prefs for work 2/13/2010 8:58:17 AM||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 5521.60MB 2/13/2010 8:58:17 AM||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 5521.60MB 2/13/2010 8:58:17 AM||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB Then clicked "Update" again in BOINC Manager: 2/13/2010 9:03:50 AM|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks 2/13/2010 9:03:55 AM|World Community Grid|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks I then Changed "My Projects" to Participate in All Projects and checked "If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project." I saved and then verified the change was made to the "Home", "Work" and "School" profiles. I then "unchecked" all but one active project and "If there is no work..." and increased the cache in all three profiles, saved and verified the changes. Clicked "Update" in BOINC Manager: 2/13/2010 9:15:50 AM|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks 2/13/2010 9:15:55 AM|World Community Grid|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks I then cleared Preferences: 2/13/2010 9:17:01 AM||General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 11-Feb-2010 22:44:13) 2/13/2010 9:17:01 AM||Computer location: work 2/13/2010 9:17:01 AM||General prefs: using separate prefs for work 2/13/2010 9:17:01 AM||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 5521.60MB 2/13/2010 9:17:01 AM||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 5521.60MB 2/13/2010 9:17:01 AM||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB Based on this and the above posts I don't agree the thread should be marked as Resolved. Do you still think it should?

When I "fixed" this last night, I made several changes across different device profiles and change the device profile for my computer and all of the changes I made took effect and were updated when I clicked update on my client. I'm sorry that it doesn't appear to have worked for everyone - just want you to know that I did test it more than just making one simple change.
I will look at it again and see if there is something else besides what I was able to fix last night. And FYI: there is no "emergency response" tech team. The tech team is the tech team, and when something has to be worked on over the weekend, then that's what we do. |
